Is it just me, or does everybody look all nice and "glowy" - in an an amberish sort of way?

What about a callout for me? I thought we had SOMETHING SPECIAL

davehat's missus was there earlier on with son, but they left before I had time to whip the camera out. The pub was kro2. Keysor Soze: Yeah, the callouts were pretty rubbish. You may not have been on that piece of paper, but heck (chokes up a bit), you're in my heart.

Be more British... but how?
They have pubs at construction sites in the UK?

I kid the limesters because I love 'em.

Well, I was flattered.

Yeah, how come no pics of seanyboy? I really do like seeing meetup pics.

oohh my first u.k. callout, sweet. callout... does this mean we're in trouble...? hey now, davehat doesn't look old enough to be drinking !

Nice one seanyboy, we must do it again soon! Any other visitors want to give us an excuse?

Can't really remember much about the conversation, but that 'Addicted to bass' is awesome ; )

Naturally, I arrived at the coach station in time to see my bus leaving. No buses for 2 hours, and work on Sunday lead me to Piccadilly to catch a train, rather than back to kro2, which was my prefered destination. Still, damp and overheated works better in an empty train than a coach and the overall cost was the same as a return on the train.

I'd do it all again without hesitation, because you're worth it!

I was in Portugal.

Sorry I had to bail early from the meet. I'd have liked to have stayed out 'til the floor started moving of its own accord, but I had to spend yet another evening doing DIY. I learned something new though, try not to cut the edges around a skirting board when you've had a few beers. It just means you have to do it again the next day.

I had a great day out with amberglow and was pleasantly suprised by the number of Northern MeFites at the meet up and how nice you all were. I'd never done anything like this before and, well, you just never know do you :). I rekon we should meet up again, perhaps in Leeds, Sheffield or Halifax, if anyones up for another. Next time, I'll stay the distance (well, 'til the last train at least).

As for amberglow, what a charming chap. I'm not sure that I actually managed to present Manchester to him in its greatest light. He seemed more impressed with Zara than the Urbis centre. Then again, the Urbis was a bit crap, as only UK millenium funded projects can be, whereas Zara's pretty inexpensive and sells nice stuff.

Hannah and Tommy had a great time too. They would have stayed out longer, but Tommy was getting a little cranky as he skipped both his daytime naps, due to the excitement of the occasion.

t r a c y: I'm still carded every once in a while and I've been legal to drink in the UK for over a decade. It used to embarrass me, but nowadays it embarrasses the bartender.

taz, troutfishing: The glow's due to the heat lamps they have at the bar. Its usually far too cold to drink outside in Manchester after September, but with these lamps, they can keep outside open 'til winter.

davehat - you mean, it wasn't the radiance of amberglow's inimitable spirit that somehow imprinted itself on and shaded the camera image ?
posted by troutfishing at 5:58 AM on September 13, 2004

The effects of amberglow's inimitable spirit and heat lamps are really quite similar.

EB - You mean amberglow is thermoluminescent !.....

Quick, get the man to a lab ! He's like a human firefly, but better - he may just be our solution to that whole "Peak Oil" problem !
posted by troutfishing at 6:25 AM on September 13, 2004

Yeah but is he exo or endothermic?

He could be the end of us all!
posted by Dagobert at 7:09 AM on September 13, 2004

Nah - we can control him with massively powerful electromagnetic fields.
posted by troutfishing at 10:13 AM on September 13, 2004

Having just spent the day with the bugger, I'd say he was exo-thermic: shame that's no use on the pool table, eh, amber? Heheheeh!

[Didn't help with those dastardly quiz questions either, eh?]

More evidence to follow - I'll just say that amberglow is gonna play our pub quiz by email next week - right, amber?

yah, where are the rest of the photos...? oh, and keep posting them to the metafilter flickr group. it would be great if everyone used it for the meet up photos, so there'd be one central repository.

amberglow et al - I'll do the pix asap - been somewhat busy w/ jobs & applications... Do I have to join Flikr? Hope it's userfriendly!

Gonna win that quiz this week, dood! I'm still cringing that all the museums were closed on Mondays! But thanks again for the lovely lunch at Browns, you're a star (",)

PS: adrianhon will rule the world (one day...!)

dash - yah you would have to join flickr to add your pics to the mefi group... after you register, upload your pics, then join the mefi group. you will see little icons to the left of each of your photos' main pages... for each photo you want to share click on the "send to group" icon, and then choose the mefi group to send it to. each photo you send to mefi will show in the mefi photo pool.
