Hmm, on second thought, it runs a little too fast. Is there any way to slow it down a bit, Matt? posted by dhoyt at 6:16 PM on October 30, 2004
thanks
(strangely, front pages seem to be much slower than threads)
(hmm. on preview, that was slow. i suspect it's just the link from here to the rest of the world). posted by andrew cooke at 6:25 PM on October 30, 2004
I miss the smell of old books and cardboard boxes, and the quiet shy apartment talk coming from just oustide the glass-knobbed door. I miss the thrill of fire-walking on her accidental code. I miss our giggling pajama'd flirts with JRun hide-and-seek. I miss her dear old obstinacies.
But soon the smell of hot aluminum tinged with industrial-strength antiseptic, soon the echoing snippets of anonymous IT mercenaries barking through the mantra hum of high-efficiency fans - soon these will characterize the good old days - and I swear I'll find a way to miss them too. posted by Opus Dark at 7:09 PM on October 30, 2004
I know this is weird, but the whole internet is faster.
By the way, Opus Dark = David Foster Wallace, a little bit drunk. Trust me. posted by _sirmissalot_ at 7:46 PM on October 30, 2004

Well, of course it is. This is the whole Internet, isn't it? At least, the distilled essence of it, anyway. Matt, thank you - this is well-needed and well-appreciated. posted by wanderingmind at 12:42 AM on October 31, 2004

Sweet. I gotta say, the front page of MeFi itself doesn't seem super fast, but the comment pages, and all the *Fi derivatives are smokin'.
The JRUN, RUN, RUN... she don't run no more.
I think it actually does. I'm assuming there weren't any structural coding changes, and that the site still runs on ColdFusion, but yeah, it's nice to have enough horsepower to handle the load!

It is moving with the quickness of a frolicking pony!! Old and busted was a 30-40 second lag between each page (from my work computer with time-warner cable). Now from work is like a 2-5 second page load! And comment preview is lickety-split!
