Have we been trolled?
07 Dec 2004 : Cost to me £96.99 : PapPal Donations £0.00 : Reaction on Metafilter - Priceless
Read back through his comments on the original thread with this in mind, and the whole thing smacks of a self post.
WHBT? WHL? HAND*

It looked like a self-link. No one could be impressed with a page that shitty and link to it unless it was their own 15 minutes of work.
If it was a troll, it was less than spectacular. Half the posts in the thread were "gee, that sucks." But I grabbed the photo of the ugly woman holding the sign and I'll use it in something else. So it was worth the three minutes I spent there, weak troll or not.

Even if we have been trolled, its still a stupid little wanker site trying to make money because he's upset.
With the recently reopened memberships, we were bound to get some jackoffs gaming the site some. I don't care though I wouldn't mind if his personal information were made public so I could scrawl his number in some toilet stalls for that late night sex call action.

I'm too distracted by my thousandth comment to mefi to unintentionally be "penis" but maybe the guy with the shitty website has instant referring on his counter?

What are you talking about? fleener has been a member of this site for years. I don't think fleener is the person that is hosting a site in the UK.

According to WHOIS, the site is registered to Chris McEvoy of Bristol, UK.
Doesn't seem like fleener, but what do I know?

What in Gods own country cost £96.99. That's nearly $200 in foreign money.

Jester, what maks you think fleener is the site owner? It was made by (allegedly) Chris and Gabriel, whereas fleener's name is Jack. They spent nearly £100, but have received zero donations, enjoying the mefi discussion as priceless.
Which comments indicate Jack = Chris or Gabriel?

fleener does have a point: you sit-on-your-ass hotheads are, in fact, a hoot. "Priceless" indeed.

Okay, it seems like every time I type anything lately I end up apologizing. Sorry for the crap Metatalk post. Sorry for pointing a finger at someone that so didn't deserve it.
I need to dump shoe goo all over my keyboard so only the enter and the space key work. That and a mouse will get you by most places, and prevent foot-in-mouth-itis.
I'll go back to lurking now

Just to put the record straight: I did not know that a link to my site had been posted here until I saw a metafilter.com link in my refferer logs.
Once I saw the discussion thread I posted the metafilter reference on my site.
Why didn't jester69 e-mail me to ask if I had been involved in posting the link here as my e-mail address is displayed underneath the PayPal link for all to see?
Why do people have to assume the worst about other people before they have even communicated with them?
A comment is appreciated for the value that it adds to the discussion. With many topics, members go into a conversation already having a general idea of how they feel about the subject. The most valuable posts present new information, new perspectives, and new ideas that challenge each of us to consider not just what we believe, but why we believe it.

Thank you to the people who have taken the time to think about things a bit before posting a message.
Oh and the PayPal donations now stand at £0.01

You guys are a hoot. Complain about any FPP that you dislike and quickly devolve into conspiracy theories. I have no connection to the linked site, other than that I have participated in other web forums with the site owner before. I don't know the guy personally. But whatever.
