It's 9th and Hennepin and all the donuts have names that sound like prostitutes

Is there some sort of notification system I should be aware of before I go, or do I just show up?
posted by baphomet at 2:50 PM on January 20, 2005

Well... if someone sends me an eps version of the Mefi logo in the next 3 hours, I can print out a giant banner.
posted by nathan_teske at 5:18 PM on January 20, 2005

natan_teske: please god no, no banner.

we just need a little sign.
posted by angry modem at 5:42 PM on January 20, 2005

but but but.... i wanted to make a big pancake banner.

baphomet: It's likely that neckro, angry and I will be there about sevenish to score spots. We'll be the drunk nerds with the laptops.

No, seriously.

Heh. I was about to post that exact same thing.
posted by neckro23 at 9:08 PM on January 20, 2005

first time I went to a MPLS MeFi meetup, I first ran into Mr. Bula wandering out front holding a big fat picture of a pancake and muttering to himself. I almost turned right around and walked away.

Is anyone planning on going prior to 7pm? Just wondering if I should stay downtown or go home and take a nap?

Anyone need a ride from Uptown?
posted by Lola_G at 8:44 AM on January 21, 2005

I was not muttering.

(And yes, I'll have pancake photos again.)

Side note: Five to seven inches expected this evening.

I live on Lowry Hill (or near enough, Lyndale & Aldrich) and I will be taking the bus in. But I might want to bum a ride home, depending on how late things run and how much norm (Norm?) drinks.
posted by Scooter at 12:58 PM on January 21, 2005

Yeah, I'm actually not sure if I'll be there at all now. I might take the bus, too, but it's so snoooooooooowy outside and my house is so waaaaaaaarm. Can't you all just come to my house instead? In Edina?

Hopefully, I'll be a little more motivated by 8.
posted by Zosia Blue at 1:07 PM on January 21, 2005

I'm looking outside now, too, and am thinking it's a Meetup Snowday.

And Scooter, if I come and if I drive, I can drop you off. I'm Lyndale and 32nd.
posted by nathan_teske at 1:18 PM on January 21, 2005

Good God, people!

I have a big mean four wheel drive truck if you want a ride. Though, I am probably going to cab it home...
posted by Lola_G at 1:32 PM on January 21, 2005

Okay, esch isn't driving, and he was going to bring me. My car's tires and brakes suck, so if anyone can pick me up, that'd be great. I'm in Uptown, 27th and Grande Ave S.
posted by angry modem at 2:50 PM on January 21, 2005

Pansies!

YOU MUST DEFY THE WEATHER! SNOW HATES IT WHEN YOU DRINK.
posted by esch at 3:11 PM on January 21, 2005

I may be by myself, but I'll be there.

(Minneapolis people: Beware the snow emergency.)
posted by mrbula at 3:26 PM on January 21, 2005

See, bula's coming. And we organized this meetup for him. So you'll have to show up.

Does Angry Modem still need a ride?
posted by Juicylicious at 4:14 PM on January 21, 2005

Yeah.
posted by angry modem at 4:23 PM on January 21, 2005

Email me and I'll get you set for pick up.
posted by Juicylicious at 4:30 PM on January 21, 2005

If anyone else in Uptown still needs a ride, send me an email with your phone number before 7:10.
posted by mrbula at 4:45 PM on January 21, 2005

(I just drove in from my job out in Eagan. Holy crap.)
posted by mrbula at 4:45 PM on January 21, 2005

Yeah, this is one of the times where I become increasingly grateful I'll only be living in the suburbs for five more months.
posted by Zosia Blue at 5:03 PM on January 21, 2005

Zosia: Are you going to make it?

Juicy got me squared off for a ride. All is well here.
posted by angry modem at 5:06 PM on January 21, 2005

Don't think so, angry. The buses are running at a snail's pace here, and my tiny little Hyundai Accent doesn't have a good track record with snow.
posted by Zosia Blue at 5:10 PM on January 21, 2005

It figures I'd get stuck at home.
posted by esch at 5:34 PM on January 21, 2005

Shit. Well, when summer comes, we'll have monthly meetups or something so we can make up for lost boozing time.
posted by angry modem at 5:48 PM on January 21, 2005

Seriously, I'm working hard at this.

After all the taunting, it'd be a cruel twist of fate if I couldn't make it.
posted by esch at 6:04 PM on January 21, 2005

Well, that was a good crowd, considering the weather.
posted by mrbula at 11:45 PM on January 21, 2005

Give the public what they want. PIX! PIX! PIX! Wake up, you silly Americans with your wacky time zones, and garishly colored states, and post some PIX.
posted by taz at 12:14 AM on January 22, 2005

ick, I know this is going to get pushed off the main page before anyone reads it, but in the summer you should take a field trip to Duluth so as I may join in the festivities. We got a small lake you can swim in (if it's august), and plenty of good beer. Otherwise I suppose I could haul my but down there sometime.

Sorry I missed it, kids. I just finally got my car dug out ... would have made it, but the city plowed my alley at about 7:00 last night, basically burrying the back end of my car up to the bumper.

good times, good times.

Good to know I wasn't the only one deterred. If there's another one when things get above freezing, I'm totally in.
