Shoutout: new member aeschenkarnos provides positive post September 9, 2001 8:14 PM   Subscribe

An articulate, insightful, on-target post by a brand new member of Metafilter. Just proving that the recent growth of the community can be positive, because it means even more intelligent voices with interesting things to say. More noise, but also more signal.

I learned that my random, thinking-out-loud comment was actually the core belief of a movement. Thanks for the linkage, aeschenkarnos, I'm reading up on it now.

I fully agree that growth is good. When "newbies" get criticized around here, it's not simply for being new. If a new user contributes a good (or even not extremely bad) comment or link, no one even notices their user number.

But if there's a particularly bad post, and one finds that the poster has been here for 2 days, that poster should be made aware of the standards and guidelines under which this site operates. If you're posting without having taken the time to understand the community you're speaking to, that's bad.
