global flight landing live video March 3, 2005 11:36 AM Subscribe
For those of you on windows/IE, check out the live video of the global flight landing, about to end in a few minutes.
Wow, for anyone that caught it, it's a live unedited feed, and it's great. You can hear a reporter off-camera telling folks to get ready to cheer when he goes on. Classic.

Heh. www.virginatlanticglobalflyer.com could not be found. Where are they landing at? Looks like Kansas. I guess I just assumed that Scaled and Virgin would be using the Mojave City... erm... Spaceport.

Oh, finally got through to the official page. Salinas is the landing site.
Damn, I bet that was a noisy flight with that turbine right over his head. I don't know if I'd like that.

That was a great feed. You had Fossett calling the tower for wind checks, repeated assertions that the tower's audio couldn't be heard (tv xmissions?) by a news chopper, and as Fossett turned into his final approach, all the commercial pilots in the area suddenly chimed in with congrats "from America West" etc. -- the best one being a guy who just interjected, "Fossett, you're a stud!" Then you had Fossett telling the press he was really interested in a bathroom and a real dinner, Fossett and Branson spritzing each other with champagne, Branson seemingly grabbing the mic and taking over the event, telling Fossett which news media to talk to and so on, then Fossett getting a live phone call -- which turned out, I think, to have been the administrator of the FAA. Gasp.
