More inside tag doesn't show on best answers April 5, 2005 5:39 PM   Subscribe

The [more inside] tag doesn't show up on the best answers part of ask.me. Just thought it should be pointed out.

Let me glom on here: Perhaps this has already been discussed, but, I'd like an "unanswered" view of askme. One that shows only the questions that don't have a checkmark.

All questions without the 'answered' checkmark should be deleted after 30 days.

Yeah, it's something I've been meaning to fix.

I'd like an "unanswered" view of askme.

There aren't that many answered questions on the front page, and just because something has a good answer doesn't mean the question is "over".

All questions without the 'answered' checkmark should be deleted after 30 days.

I disagree.

erebora, that makes no sense. Some questions make it so that all answers could be the best one, depending on who is reading it as they are subjective, and older ones didn't even have the option to be "rated", so it would kill masses of askme's.

I'm with Matt on this one. In fact, sometimes I get upset when I see a difficult question with a single half-decent answer, but it's already marked as "answered". IMHO, the ideal behavior would be to give a warning when you try to mark something as the best answer, or maybe even not allow marking until the question is off the front page. That checkmark on the front page really discourages people from contributing further. "Oh, it's answered. *moving on*"

And email alerts a few days later, also, to remind you to mark your questions answered.

Sorry for the sarcasm, Matt. Any opinions on this request?

I for one dislike the "best answer" concept in general. It discourages discourse: without a flag, casual readers may not click, and with a flag, people become disinclined to add to the thread. Oftentimes an intriguing counterpoint or additional resource can come after a good response is posted--with the "best answer" flagged quickly, there is less incentive to continue the discussion.

Here's a twist: what if the best-answer tick didn't enable until 24 hours after the post?
