Frasermoo's wedding on CNN April 5, 2005 2:34 PM   Subscribe

Metafilterinos in the news. Remember when Frasermoo asked for help in dealing with the media about Prince Charles' wedding being so close with his own? With the pushback of the Royal wedding to ninety minutes before his own, Frasermoo and his lovely bride's ceremony received a mention on CNN.

CNN? Pish. The BBC is where it's at, particularly when FraserMoo is quoted:
Grace Beesley, 33, from Windsor, who is marrying Fraser Moores, 34, in the Guildhall at 1400 BST on Saturday, said she was "very excited" by the prospect of sharing her wedding day with Charles and Camilla.

The couple are scheduled to be the first married in the hall after the royal couple.

Miss Beesley said: "We won't have to make any changes to our wedding - the registrar rang us this morning and told us that - so it will just be another dimension to the day and a bit more exciting."

Mr Moores said he expected Windsor to be busier as a result of the postponement, but added: "I don't care - bombs could fall from the sky and I'm looking forward to still getting married."

Whereupon, the british secret service took him into custody.

I was talking about this couple today. Someone I know was ranting about how Charles had obviously cleared the registrars for a week, it had been locked down, poor average citizens, blah blah. I had to set them straight cos I'd heard about this one guy on the internet...

The additional details in the Sun article are priceless. You're getting married between Prince Charles and Major Tom! And Major Tom is Tom Crapper, a descendant of the Thomas Crapper at that. That is so special in that wacky, uniquely English way... your wedding will certainly be unforgettable. Cheers to the bride and groom!
posted by kindall at 4:22 PM on April 5, 2005

I spoke to Tom today. He's a nice guy.

The Crapper connection is fantastic because my friend Chris is my witness and he used to have an original Crapper toilet in his house which we regarded with awe.

Too cool, Frasermoo. Hope you have a wonderful wedding day, at least the Queen won't be there beforehand with her corgis to mess up the place. ;)

Now, Frasermoo, all this wedding of yours needs is me, attired in my swan tutu (like this one only dyed orange), and sprinkling orange rose petals in your path.

And WHY isn't Queen E II attending her own son's wedding? Does this not strike anyone else as strange?

Because that Camilla is the cause of their "annus horribilis"? Or because of that whole "tampon" thing, to name just one of many instances of (gross and) unroyal bad press for them? I betcha the Queen wishes she could still knock people off like her predecessors could. Camilla and Fraser could have had neighboring cells in the Tower (but it would have been more likely that Charles would have had his mom knocked off, i think. But it is terrible that the mother's not even going--and very telling.

on preview - didn't you know? the queen was diana's lover (didn't you see the photos of her slapping our princess with a studded black leather handbag?). she never got over the breakup or assassination tragic accident.
posted by andrew cooke at 6:14 PM on April 5, 2005

well, look who we're talking about--if it hadn't been for Diana warming them up a little, where would they be? What are they good for anyway? Being on money?
posted by amberglow at 6:15 PM on April 5, 2005

The Queen has conflicts because she is the head of The Church Of England..against divorce/re-marriage.. or something to that nature.

my mom will be there. (and she is head of her local W.I.)
i kid you not.

I thought the Church of England only exists because of Henry VIII wanting a divorce? How can it be against divorce?

What's W.I.?
posted by amberglow at 6:18 PM on April 5, 2005

sorry amberglow. you're right. she was artificially inseminated for charles and anne. as for how the coe can be against divorce, well, that puzzles us all. something to do with keeping the faithful happy if they have to have women priests, i suspect. and wi are the secret jam and knitting shock troops of the british bourgeoisie.

Frasermoo, you're spending $40,000 on your wedding? Wow. I hope that means you took the tabloid money! Either that or I am really in the wrong line of work... Congrats in any case.
posted by karmaville at 7:55 PM on April 5, 2005

The $40,000 figure was in the NZ paper so it's probably NZ dollars coverted from English pounds (maybe the ?15,000 figure quoted in the article?).

Also, I've read that QEII is missing the brouhaha so the brouhaha doesn't get any worse that it's already bound to be. She (and the rest of the family) are supposed to be at the church blessing held later the same day at Windsor Castle.

Which raises the question - how can they have a church blessing yet not a church wedding? I is confuzzled.
posted by deborah at 8:15 PM on April 5, 2005

deborah, yeah. The pound is worth around NZ$3, so that fits.

Apparently it is indeed because of her role as head of the Church of England that the Queen can't/won't attend. I think although the church allows divorce and remarriage it's still frowned upon to an extent. It's the same reason Charles and Camilla aren't being married in a church.
posted by tracicle at 8:28 PM on April 5, 2005

Politics, deborah.

The C of E has no official issue with divorce, for obvious reasons... but QEII can't be publicly seen (even though everyone knows it's happening in private later) to support the wedding of the (probable) future King, seeing as he's marrying The Other Woman.

So this guy doesn't have to abdicate for marrying a divorcee? How quickly the rules change, I mean Edward abdicated, and that's the only reason Charles mum is on the damn throne in the first place, making Charles a potential King.

Frasermoo, your wedding is way waaaaay cooler, congrats! Someone needs to start a scrap book for you guys with all these articles, the grandkids are gonna love it. :)

dirtynumbangelboy - I hateses the politics!

What I want to know, I guess, is what is the difference between a church "blessing" and a church "wedding"?

Oh, and I should have said - congrats Frasermoo and (almost) Mrs Frasermoo!
