MeFi Seattle: meetup much? Rumor has it that a quite amiable and accomplished actress will be visiting Seattle May 8th and 9th. Surely we can spare a few hours for coordinated hooliganry, malted beverages, and inevitably the Most Revered Bearing of Digital Gadgets both Great and Small. Discuss within.
Bowling?

Bowling?
*consults the minutes from last meeting*
Yes, I do believe that was an agenda item.

I recommend Imperial Lanes just off of Rainier (screw Garage, they're so spendy). The staff is super-friendly and nice, it's not smoky (although smoking is allowed, they must have great ventilation), and they play the most kick-ass mix of old R&B/disco over the PA I've ever heard. Pretty cheap, too, at least on Friday nights - unlimited bowling and shoes for $13/person. And they have Redhook beer by the pitcher! What's not to love?

Weirdly enough, I've never been to Seattle, or a MeFi meetup before, but I'm actually going to be there on the 8th for a job interview, with a rental car, and I'll probably be bored out of my mind. So, yeah, someone set up something :)

I'm down with whatever we decide, though bowling would be extra fun.

I'll be in Seattle that weekend as well. Call me insane, but I'd like to meet a few Mefites.

Hmm. It's by no means certain, but perhaps I can come up.

I am new to the Rain City MeFi franchise and wonder...uh...how I would recognize this group at Imperial Lanes. Are there uniform bowling shirts? Or other identifying characteristics?

Well, for twenty bucks or more, tees hirts or personalized baseball jerseys can be had, though I do not know when the last custome jersey was created.
Sounds to me as though bowling consensus has been acheived. Dan, I swear I had nothing to do with the payoffs.
I suggest that the most effective method for ensuring a happy gathering might be to set up an invite list and reserve the apppropriate number of lanes. Traditionally, this devolves upon the thread starter - up to it, fatllama?
Caitlin also mentioned a SeaMeFi email-list a few threads back, as I recall - surely the adminisitriva could take place there as well.
As an added bonus, Imperial is the only bowling house in the city that has many lighter-weight rolling objects, handy for the keyboard jockeys out there.
Here are my pix from 2005 PNWMeFi meets past, certainly there will be some repeat attendees.
(BTW, last time I was at the Elysian, intending to eat and work a bit, I was told that the WiFi there was "down indefinitely." Yet I could see the netowrk - it wasn't down, it had been secured. I don't know if that's a permanent condition or not.)

Damn...I work the evening of the 8th but am free the 9th. Go 9th, go, go 9th!!
If you do decide on the 8th, you can always stop by the bar I work at for some pre-funk shots...of afterwards for some post-bowling libations.

Email me if you're interested the mefisea reminder list. I like making the plan in plain view, but the list is ultra low traffic and totally available for reminders.

mwhybark, you either need to use a faster shutter speed or remember to drink five fewer beers before using that camera ;). Say, Mike, you think dry erase markers would work on bowling balls?
The consensus at the moment seems to be the Sunday the 8th (vito90, do you work close to Imperial? Else rally the troops for the 9th!). I'll assess a count and reserve the lanes.
Further, I suggest adopting a preemptive and firm Yes Lebowski, No Kingpin style policy. Except no guns, k? On that note, check out Imperial's online multimedia guide to Bowling Basics. Heh.
Regarding how to recognize the correct motley crew: how about I put up some kind of MeFi-logoed sign at the shoe counter when I find out what lanes we'll be on.

mwhybark - apparently the Elysian owners started getting freaked out about having an unsecured wireless network in case people were looking at child porn or whatever. They locked it and chances are it ain't opening up any time soon (sucktastic!).

For recognition symbols, we could use something like these buttons. The penny and dime are for scale
Would that do?

I have some one-inch buttons in MeFi colors, too - no actual logos.

Meetup? There's always Bottleworks' Brouwers Cafe in Fremont. Shiny new digs for serious good beer. Sunset Bowl isn't far from there, for those so inclined.
