check this out, it's a real-time chat app done in XML and DHTML that floats "over" a site. It's kinda buggy and took me a few loads for it to work. Apparently, it's not private just to this site, and the other users are on other sites, but it's interesting.

Neat. Playing with it now. Looks like the browser takes a big performance hit, but they're working on that. There's a few people from the dev team on. Nice guys.

It crashed IE5.5 after about 5 minutes. The avatars were everywhere on my screen. Does this mean it is the end of #MeFi ?

There's a cache-corruption problem with IE through 5.5 if it does a whole lot of complex graphics for a very long time. They haven't fixed it yet. If you're using Win2K abd if you manage to kill it then things will recover. If you're using Win 98/ME you have to reboot. I don't know if it's fixed in IE6.

i tried it in ie5.5 on both my win2k and win98se machines. the page opens but nothign happens. any suggestions on how to get this work? i'd like to check but maybe that's why you said it's buggy. =)

It's just a preview right now, and is limited to 15 users at a time. Found out from the dev team this is actually a client limitation(the entire thing is currently running off their server, so it's basically 15 people worldwide).

It's making the rounds right now, so it's likely to be full. Keep trying it. It's possible that there's no particular notice about it being full implemented at the moment, so maybe it just plain doesn't work when it is.
