First, thank you very much for your advice, it was extremely helpful. The debate could not have gone better. (Afterwards the coordinator said I was "perfect"). I was able to relax, the people were friendly, and the crowd was extremely knowledgeable and polite. There were about 80 high school seniors who showed up on their own volition, so they were very into the debate. It was dominated by myself and the IP lawyer.

Highlight of the night:

Question: With all these people getting sued, can you give us any advice for downloading files?

Me: The advice I'd give is a lot like the advice people give about sex. Don't do it, but if you're going to do it, use protection.

(Well, I thought it was good at least :-) )

Anyways, thanks again for your advice and support. It really made things easier and made me more confident going in. AskMe rules!

Cool. It's great to hear stories like this. The frequent snarking, vitriol and personality conflicts make it easy to forget how valuable this community can be. We have something pretty special, maybe even unique, and it's nice to be reminded.

I second what loquacious and cedar said. Then again, one of the reasons I switch over to MetaTalk is for the rampant snark...tres interesting, from the outside. Anyway, glad to hear things turned out well.
