...

Who's that ridiculous guy on the right, though?

It looks like he's fart-stifling.

Screenshot in case they change the ad.
posted by sbutler at 7:57 AM on October 27, 2005

They won't change the ad. It was a joke ad done for a mockup last summer when they redesigned and they decided to leave in. It's been up there ever since they launched the store (and they made up the quote too).

Like I'm going to believe that.

hehe...yeah, I didn't think it sounded quite like you, Matt.

Matt's coolness factor is stratospheric. That goes without saying (but I'm saying it anyway). I wouldn't bother pointing out site inconsistencies to anyone lesser.

Matt is cute.

It looks like Matt needs more fiber in his diet.

the mathowie ad was cute and funny, but $25 for a 32 meg flash drive? home depot is liquidating 128 meggers for $14 a pop.

Soda, mmm.

But from the main ad: "The Brits call it a spanner" ... and it means the same as calling someone a tool.

matt howie what is your favorite soda flavor?

Dangling the prospect of a soda with mathowie is a refreshing change from most advertisements, which lead you to believe that their product will get you into bed with Heidi Klum.
posted by scarabic at 10:49 AM on October 27, 2005

smacks i_cola.

waits for coldchef to post recollections about the nole on heidi klum's left's asscheek.

which lead you to believe that their product will get you into bed with Heidi Klum.

And yet I prefer the million-to-one shot here. I'll take my chances.

Writing really long strings of onomatopoetic laughter that screws up everyone's scroll bars is so cool!

I would be glad to drink a soda with Matt, but I don't drink soda. Beer, anyone? Hard liquor?

Sodas for all!

Can you make mine a Pepsi Blue?
posted by Pollomacho at 11:23 AM on October 27, 2005

That picture of you, Matt, will live with you the rest of your life. It's like your unofficial headshot that everyone knows you by. I just find the whole situation to be rather hilarious.

It's kinda like evil monkey in the family guy movie. Years from now strangers will come up to you and tell you to do the face. I just hope you won't disappoint them.

That's not the worst picture of me. The one the NYT took in 2001, where I'm holding a laptop like a pizza box under the golden gate bridge. That's the worst picture of me ever. No wait, this photoshopped modification is it.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 12:28 PM on October 27, 2005

Oh man, here's the NYTimes shot original. I can't believe I let that photographer talk me into such a lame ass photo.

The original still looks like a photoshop. Weird.
posted by tracicle at 12:36 PM on October 27, 2005

Oh man, here's the NYTimes shot original.

And you think you can run this place, after a picture like that? Though quonsar's entry is #1 in my book. Your expression says professional web consultant all over it.
posted by SeizeTheDay at 12:39 PM on October 27, 2005

But quonsar's entry is one I took myself, and posted myself, where everyone was trying to show their worst photo possible.

And about that shot? I'm not wearing fake redneck teeth. I think I may have a smile even british people cringe at. "A face for radio internet" if ever there was one.

I agree, wtf?
posted by matteo at 1:01 PM on October 27, 2005

I think they made the flash drives a year and a half ago, when that price was more competitive.

Why is the filename for the NYT photo "13wang.1.jpg"? Is there something about Matt we don't know?
posted by matildaben at 4:00 PM on October 27, 2005

Obviously Matt collects large quantities of obsolete computer equipment.

It looks like you should have a cape in that shot. And maybe a funny suit with tights.

It's a geek! It's a dork! NO! IT'S SUUUPERNERD!
