Another Scottish Meetup ? Yes ? No ? Maybe ?
posted by sgt.serenity to MetaFilter Gatherings at 4:57 PM (18 comments total)

I know we were meant to sort out a thing in Edinburgh in August , but me and marquis went back into miss jean brodie mode the minute we set foot in princes st.
So we're trying to make amends , or something.

Look , Edinburghs crap , can't we meet in glasgow again ?

I also hear a charming young lady from dundee has promised to be in attendance....

I am from Scotland and would participate, and would also cast a vote for Glasgow.

uhhh... hi languagehat. :)

well, sarge, i am inevitably in. but twould be lovely not to have to hoof it into glasgow (or else maybe to have it on a friday/saturday, when there isn't a bus-ride back and work the next morning ...)

i will light the bonaldi beacon.

i will light the bonaldi beacon
Is that some kind of euphemism that I would rather not know the real meaning of?

Being biased in these matters, I'd obviously like to meet in Glasgow, but I'm willing to cross over to the evil east. Maybe we could all meet on Magdalen Green, and eat an ingin peh, as a tribute to current MeTa controversies; if not, I'm more than happy to hit the capital, so long as nobody makes me go anywhere near the Royal Mile ...

Do you suppose jenleigh will be there?

How about outside the Scotland Office on Whitehall?

my beacon hurts now. let me pass the flame to jack_mo.

but I'm still up for a meetup. my location feelings are the same as Len's and my flat is near his, not that there's bias at all *cough* observatory *cough*

Okay, although we still await the arrival of jack_mo, and hopefully some more "new folks" apart from fire&wings, I think I can tentatively assert that a Meetup in Glasgow is a go. (I do it tentatively because I'm Canadian.)

I will be there for the Wolf Parade gig on the 25th (and probably, hipster that I am, for Sunday's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah performance) but it probably makes more sense to do something else. Can I suggest Friday December 2nd or Saturday the 10th?

oooh clap your hands say yeah ? are they any good ?
posted by sgt.serenity at 2:10 AM on November 16, 2005

On record at least they're pretty darn good. Manic and fun-lovin', but with a god schizo lurch. It's not the record of the year, but I suspect it will be a very good time.

Sorry, I burnt my fingers on the beacon when bonaldi lobbed it over, so couldn't type a response until now.

Can I suggest Friday December 2nd or Saturday the 10th?

Either's cool for me (though there is a very slight risk I'll be in Krakow on the 10th.)

How about the Liquid Ship for the venue? Having just written a thoroughly-'researched' guide to drinking in the West End, I can safely say it's among the finest pubs available - has both IPA on tap and a fucking stunning selection of tapas. And cakes. The cakes are splendid.

Also - ulterior motive imminent! - it's right by my place, so we could continue boozing it up in my living room should the urge take us. There's Laphroig and the Balvenie in the drinks cabinet, and I promise not to put any gabber on the stereo.

Plus I have an uncomfy camp bed and a comfy sofa if Sarge and Marquis can't be arsed rushing to the train back East?

Damn, I wish I lived in Glasgow instead of just having a copy of The Patter; I'd love to get smashed on Laphroaig and Balvenie with you all. Have a dram for me!

I can't make the 2nd, but the 10th's a goer. The Ship floats my boat too.
posted by bonaldi at 7:13 AM on November 16, 2005

The 10th it is then?

Have a dram for me!

Will do! (More likely several.)

Oh, and fire&wings, I see you're a painter. Cue me and Len shitting ourselves until the 10th in case we've been nasty about your work in print!
posted by jack_mo at 8:02 AM on November 16, 2005

*me votes for 10th at the ship*
posted by sgt.serenity at 9:35 AM on November 16, 2005

10th at The Ship sounds good to me. See you all there.

Also, Marquis – I'm going to the Clap Your Hands Say yeah gig too; I'll keep an eye out for you ...
