Is there a sequel to Jingle Bell Rock? November 20, 2005 8:31 AM Subscribe
The holidays are here (more or less) and as Christmas music fills the air, I find myself reminded of last year's MeFi masterpiece... Jingle Bell Rock, vocalized by Pink Stainless Tail. It became a favorite of mine, my to the chagrin of all my friends, and I was wondering - nay, hoping - will we be similarly blessed this year? Does anyone hope to follow in his mighty footsteps?
*much to the chagrin

That version of Jingle Bell Rock was the deciding factor in my joining Metafilter. No joke.

I could be persuaded to record myself doing both parts of Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis." My current recording program only does one track, though. Can anyone recommend one that will allow me to mix vocal tracks?

Thanks for posting this question. I had been wondering the same thing. I really have a hard time believing anyone will outdo Jingle Bell Rock. But please, prove me wrong...

I can sing the abc's backwards. Not sure if anyone would be interested in hearing that, though. Also, it's kind of short.

My husband loathes Jingle Rock Bell, and probably only because I Cannot. Stop. Singing. It.
And while I cannot really sing along, I love that song, 31d1!

Challenge: someone make a version of American Pie that involves tons of mefi references. Sing it, record it, share it. If I like it I'll paypal you $5. More than one winner possible.

Awesome, 31d1! I'm tempted to blow my weekly AskMe to find out what tools you use - I've always wanted to find an easy way to cut up MP3s and loop/sequence them. Any advice there?
I can't believe I missed PST's moment of operatic genius last year. Thanks to him, quasistoic, and Miss Bitchy Pants!

holy shit. I'd never heard jingle rock bell before. that's hysterical. It's even better when I imagine PST's wife losing her shit at him singing it incessantly.

For those of you who like 31d1's rendition of "Chestnuts on an open fire", there is a cd called A Mutated Christmas which has a lot of... alternate renditions of christmas carols. The ones by Corporal Blossom in particular are in a pretty similar style.

[this is good]
Methinks this might be a nice opportunity for another MeFi charity contest. One possibility: contributors pool their donations, and the mefite who makes the best recording gets to choose what charity the funds go to (within reason, naturally). If mathowie (or anyone) wanted to run something like that, I'd be happy to chip in at least $20.

I like the idea of a charity contest. Although I'd prefer that mathowie or someone pre-select 10-20 charities then the winner gets to pick among those.

31d1 - either you've not heard Chestnuts Roasting by Nat 'Pig' Cole on V/vm's Christmas Pudding and that's totally fabulous, or you have, and it isn't. I assume it's the former, in which case I suspect you'll love that CD. And Cassetteboy's Festive Christmas too. Obviously. Everyone loves that.
Anyway, I think someone needs to do a happy hardcore remix of Pink Stainless Tail's song - I reckon that's the only way it could possibly be made more distressing.
