The front page was festooned with a big ugly flashing ad today. I thought members didn't see ads. Bug or feature?

This came up a while ago. In short, the occasional flash ad allows mathowie to work on MetaFilter full time.

Dear God Mathowie, why was I allowed to do that? You'd think that if <big> was removed, <blink> would be, too. I shudder to think where this thread will go from here. Stop the insanity before it begins, I implore you!

Dude, that's so rude. You start the off-topic "insanity" just so you can call for tag murder?

This holiday season, please blink responsibly.

Okay. He's clearly not talking out of his ass.

What did the extra comma throw you off?

Mathowie, why was I allowed to do that?

Because it's Web 2.0, ya noob.

If I were to post a big blinking "Send Davy Money!" with my P.O. Box address would that be a self-link against the guidelines?
posted by davy at 6:24 AM on December 7, 2005

Or maybe not a self-LINK, but still. Same principle, right?

Right. Send Davy monkeys at this PO Box...

That missing comma, threw me, off.

Hey; I only get one a day and I blew it. You'd think I'd get some sympathy.

Only one comma a day? I have an extra one you can use in case of emergency.
posted by leftcoastbob at 9:38 AM on December 7, 2005

I also have an apostrophe you can use but that will cost you.

We're born with a pair, though, right? For redundancy?

Last night I dreamt I was an operative with the CIA. I was in an office the whole time, talking persuasively on the phone. I think today is a nonsensical day, and I'm making sure my contribution is substantial.

Uh, Plutor... what about the live preview stopped you from seeing that it would blink in the first place?

Live preview says a lot of things, clf.

Live preview will break your heart.

caution live frogs: "Uh, Plutor... what about the live preview stopped you from seeing that it would blink in the first place?"

item demonstrated my answer for me. Live preview takes your code and just dumps it inside a div. If it's valid HTML, displayable by your browser, you'll see it. Big, blink, colors, divs with javascript, etc. Only non-live preview and posting allow the MeFi CF magic de-haxifying code do its thing.
