Those of you who participated in the most recent MeFiSwap: How many CDs have you received?

four out of five, and really excellent stuff!
posted by moonbird at 9:21 AM on January 5, 2006

I've received 2 so far, but some of the group (including myself) have communicated that we are behind on sending for various reasons, so I am expecting a full set in the end.
posted by PinkStainlessTail at 9:25 AM on January 5, 2006

I teamed up with cloeburner, who was the "official" participant. We got five out five, and they're all excellent.
posted by Espy Gillespie at 9:27 AM on January 5, 2006

similar to PinkStainlessTail.

all the emails are in your swap set. set up a small mail list and communicate.
posted by edgeways at 9:27 AM on January 5, 2006

I was going to send out a survey next week before I delete the mailing list. It sounds like it was pretty successful, all in all.
posted by cmonkey at 9:27 AM on January 5, 2006

4 outta 5, and we've all been in touch about it, too. I have no doubts that the fifth one is on the way.

3 out of five and one email that one is late. It has been great fun.
posted by sveskemus at 9:29 AM on January 5, 2006

Damn, dudes. I got a big goose egg so far, and I sent out an email a few days ago to the whole list, and nobody responded. ORANGE!!!!(&#@&^(@

The full five! Thanks to all in swapset Aqua for some great stuff.

Three from my set of participants (# includes my own). And, one on the way from someone outside my set.

rxrfrx, if you want to send me your address my e-mail's in the profile, I plan on mailing out some other things this weekend.
posted by safetyfork at 9:41 AM on January 5, 2006

4 out of 5 here - and I think I've received mails to the effect that all have been sent, so the last one is probably still on its way.

And boy did I find out the hard way how much harder it is to compose a mix CD for strangers rather than trying to woo a girl.

But it was great fun, and I've received some really excellent mixes. A++++, would participate again!
posted by AwkwardPause at 9:42 AM on January 5, 2006

rxrfrx, if you send me a mail, I'd be happy to swap with yous as well!
posted by AwkwardPause at 9:44 AM on January 5, 2006

I made a mefi mix awhile ago. I'd be glad to send it out again. Just ask.
posted by crunchland at 9:48 AM on January 5, 2006

I got everyone except one from a user in Chile, and I totally understand that one. He probably didn't get my mix, either.

Great music on all the mixes I got, btw. Big Thanks to cmonkey for putting this together.
posted by selfnoise at 9:58 AM on January 5, 2006

So happy that patricio got all five, since he was the only non-American in our swapset and got a heavier burden than the rest of us.
posted by smackfu at 10:21 AM on January 5, 2006

Damn, dudes. I got a big goose egg so far, and I sent out an email a few days ago to the whole list, and nobody responded.

That's not cool at all. I'd be happy to send you one of mine, to make up for it, too.
posted by cmonkey at 10:29 AM on January 5, 2006

Two. But I haven't sent mine out yet... (I'm doing it now, I swear! I'll stop being all OCD about it!)
posted by klangklangston at 10:36 AM on January 5, 2006

rxrfrx, I got your email (looks like a great tracklist!) but no cd yet.

I haven't received anything from anyone else yet either.

As my email to Swapset Orange explained, my mixes are going out super late. I'm posting them on Saturday because I suck.
posted by mds35 at 10:36 AM on January 5, 2006

Just one. but I think my postman is stealing them, cuz I'm in cmonkey's swapset. (damn you postman!)

So... who's mix was the best?
posted by Hanover Phist at 10:42 AM on January 5, 2006

I should note: I've been in about 7 swaps between Metafilter, Monkeyfilter, another 'philter, and MySpace. The best I have ever done was to receive four out of five, and that only happened once.
posted by mds35 at 10:46 AM on January 5, 2006

I think I've gotten three or four, but I was in two sets, so that number really should be higher. I haven't emailed around about it yet, but I will, and I know that a few people said they'd be late (but one of those I've gotten already).
posted by OmieWise at 10:49 AM on January 5, 2006

I think I got four outta the five, but not sure due to extra cd I swapped with someone outside the group. It which case, I've gotten 3 outta 5.

slightly disappointed that only two of swapset grey got the cds out by the date and one of them was me.

When's the next one?
posted by Brandon Blatcher at 11:02 AM on January 5, 2006

When's the next one?

Dreama's doing the next one, and I have no idea what her timeframe is.

Four out of five from swapset Aqua, but I did move after the sets were made and expect the fifth is already on its way to being forwarded from my old address.
posted by rhapsodie at 11:33 AM on January 5, 2006

I got 4 out of 5, 1 from Canada. OmieWise, did you get mine? I mailed it 2 days before the deadline...
posted by blackkar at 12:16 PM on January 5, 2006

I've had 2 out of 5 from swapset lime. Thanks cmonkey and hanover phist, they were both excellent. cmonkey yours arrived this morning, I have fallen in love with "On the Nature of Daylight" by Max Richter. All mine went out before Christmas - if you were in lime and haven't received it in a week or two, let me know.

A big thank you to cmonkey for organising everything.
posted by greycap at 12:18 PM on January 5, 2006

4 out of 5 on my "official" list, plus an extra (excellent) one from cmonkey and an extra from safetyfork. One of the ones on my list arrived smashed in the mail, but the sender emailed and said she'd send another. One of them was truly random crap that was either a joke or else dearly loved music from someone with absolutely no taste at all. The one I haven't gotten yet did correspond to someone who sent out an email apologizing for lateness, so I'm hopeful.

So... who's mix was the best?
posted by Hanover Phist at 10:42 AM PST on January 5 [!]

I'll go ahead and field this one, if I may. The best mix from swapset grey (and best of all the swapsets overall, I can say with no knowledge of their contents whatsoever) was ND¢'s Kick-Ass Eighties-ish Country-ish Mix. The tracklist is below, but be careful not to burn your eyeballs, because this shit is hot:

1. Fishin' in the Dark - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
2. All the Gold in California - The Gatlin Brothers
3. Feed Jake - Billy Dean
4. Let Me Be There - Olivia Newton John
5. Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses - Kathy Mattea
6. Lay You Down - Conway Twitty
7. Baby I'm Burning - Dolly Parton
8. I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink - Merle Haggard
9. Third Rate Romance - Sammy Kershaw
10. Lonely Women Make Good Lovers - Steve Warner
11. Heavens Just a Sin Away - The Kendalls
12. Silver Wings - Merle Haggard
13. I Believe in Love - Don Williams

Safetyfork, did you get mine? You didn't mention it above.
posted by matildaben at 12:25 PM on January 5, 2006

I've gotten one, because I'm in klangklangston's swapset. Be prepared for a scathing e-mail missive, delinquents!
posted by kyleg at 12:25 PM on January 5, 2006

I've received 4, I believe, but I had two swapsets, so should be getting 10 total. However, if actual music labels who care about whether I receive their CDs are taking more than 4 weeks to get discs to me, then I can't expect better from swap participants. The fact is, these were mailed in December. Mail is slow in December, especially, as is the case for me, across borders.

I am in klangklangston/kyleg/etc swapset. CDs going out this weekend, sweartagawd. Sorry.

Swapset Purple here...got 3 of 5, with Dr. Wu's being the bomb. In the last Dreama swap I got 4 of 5. Not a bad track record but the slackers piss me the fuck off. You have MONTHS, how hard is it?
posted by spicynuts at 12:52 PM on January 5, 2006

Olivia Newton John, Conway Twitty... Dolly Parton. Wow, impressive. but what about mixes... apart from your own!

I found them to be appallingly Olivia Newton John-less.

Swapset green here, 2 of 5 but I've been told that one is on the way.
posted by arcticwoman at 1:39 PM on January 5, 2006

Matildaben, indeed it is your's that I'm waiting for... "And, one on the way from someone outside my set."... I think that it is just caught in the postal system's Holiday crunch.

I made the send-out deadline for Team Teal and hope they've all received mine.

I will admit that I think I shouldn't have included the Robots song in the middle of the disc because of the low mastering quality of that song. To be honest, I can't listen to the mix myself anymore because of that. Otherwise, I'm rather fond of it.

Swapset Blue: 3 out of 5 with 2 e-mails about delay. Great stuff from spilon, maus501, and james_in_london.

edgeways, your CD graphics creeped me out a little. I'm not sure why.

Safetyfork, I did mail mine out a couple days before Xmas so it's probably out there somewhere. If you haven't gotten it in a couple of weeks, drop me a line in private email and I'll send you another one (or you can download it from my web site and burn it yourself).

Team Indigo girl here, with 4/5 (and I believe the fifth's on its way).
posted by scody at 2:15 PM on January 5, 2006

I've gotten 3 out of 5, which I already consider miraculous considering one misspelled my street name, and another left out the street number & street name altogether! Still eagerly awaiting the others - I know a 4th is late and on its way. No word on the 5th, but I live in the Philippines and have gotten Christmas mail in mid-January in the past so it could just be that. I hope everyone in my swapset received mine.

All three mixes I've gotten are excellent though, and I've fallen in love with so much new music since! Thanks frykitty, OmieWise, and 23skidoo!

Lush: I sent yours on the 17th, I believe. I'd have to say that Lush's Ask Metafilter themed mix was incredibly cool.
posted by moonbird at 2:47 PM on January 5, 2006

You're the 4th I'm talking about, moonbird! I can't wait to get it, and rilly rilly hope it hasn't been lost or stolen (not unheard of, or even unusual) by anyone in the local postal service. (And thanks, I had fun making it!)
posted by Lush at 3:07 PM on January 5, 2006

I...uh...think I have four out of five? In any case, they are all very cool. Well, the ones I've had a chance to listen to so far. Especially interesting was Omiewise's "Eyes on a Cabbagehead" mix of bluegrass and folk.

And *I* had the best cover. But I don't have it here, so I'm counting on a swapper to post it.

I think rhapsodie won for our swapset. Gorgeous full color art on the cover and on the CD itself. Even had the MeFi logo on the mailing labels!

Espy Gillespie, the front image of my cd ccame from the animatronic yard at walldrug (the only good part of walldrug), if you put in a quarter the (real) stuffed animals whirled around to some tune. There where two rabbits, the arm of one hung by a thread so as it spun around its arm would whip around alarmingly... so your reaction is appropriate.
posted by edgeways at 3:59 PM on January 5, 2006

Thanks, smackfu. I love doing the liner notes and label maybe more than the actual play list. I've put the liner notes on Flickr with a high-res available; the CD label was merely the same flower with the mix name.
posted by rhapsodie at 4:10 PM on January 5, 2006

I received all 5 of my CDs from Swapset Red. Ogre Lawless did an impressive job - a two disc mix packaged in an xmas card with a two-page explanation of the tracks selected! Very nice. Hopefully I'll get around to actually listening to the whole thing.

I certainly put forth the worst effort of the group, but I'm a mix swap virgin so I can only improve from here. Though I was punctual, which has to count for something.

I received five out of five from Aqua. Great variety in our group. In both music and covers. Some 80s. Some indie. Some super-indie. I've enjoyed each and every one of them. I think I win the award for least effort in terms of the cover. I really love ruby.aftermath's mix, if I had to pick one.

I'm enjoying both scody's and cmonkey's especially. The perfect combination of a few songs I've heard before and like very much, with mostly stuff I've never heard before but are great discoveries in styles/genres that I like. Also, both have great flow from track to track, which is always important to me. Plus I love saying "MeFi Swap/Scody Pop".

Moonbird and PinkStainlessTail, I sent you both email asking if you'd do a side swap with me.

Swapset red - 4/5 so far, but I'm in the UK and I guess the last one is still on its way as it's been sent. Like last time, the mixes have been excellent and I've discovered quite a few new cool acts.

The worst part in making the CD is what to leave off; there was so much that I wanted to put on, I should have done what Ogre Lawless (also in my group) did and make it a 2 disc-er. That way I could have put some more up-beat tracks on. Flickr image of my CD.

Can't wait for the next one - hopefully it'll be soon-ish.

mds35 - some interesting folders you have on your desktop...
