Kirkaracha Love March 23, 2006 11:28 AM   Subscribe

Kudos to kirkaracha for dodging the urge to be clever and actually making the text of his link to IMDB the name of the movie. Rather than content free nouns, adverb or adjectives. "Honey, I've got a tool that'll fix anything." -- Actor in this sequel would have been less useful.

The this movie thing has been driving my crazy when I read MF in my offline browser. When kirkaracha did it right I thought bring it up this way was nicer than calling out half a dozen people doing it the "clever" way.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mitheral for praising kirkaracha for using his IMDB link correctly.

The use of the blind IMDB link bugs the unholy frogfuck out of me, as well. It's a tiny step forward.

I'm sorry, matteo, but you must phrase your comment in the form of a kudos.

Kudos to you for trying, though.

Kudos to Mithreal for figuring out how to get on the Internet and post this. It was obviously difficult to come to terms with the fact that you must be connected to the Internets to use Metafilter.

Thing is you don't. A multitude of offline readers exist for desktops and mobile devices. For example I don't know whether it has been expanded to the web but some black sites used to get one way Usenet on tape.

Besides breaking a fundamental guideline of mark up, using a content free phrase instead of the name of the movie reduces accessibility for those using screen readers.

Thing is you don't.

And oddly you still have trouble clicking on links that lead to other sites while you're browsing offline. Sounds like you do need to be online to get the full "MetaFilter experience." I'm assuming you had to be online to post a reply to my comment.

Is it wrong of me to not give a shit at all about either point?

Well you wouldn't be the only one, lots of people don't care if they make the web difficult for the blind. The wide spread use of flash for navigation proves that.

posted by If I Had An Anus at 1:37 PM on March 23, 2006

That was both wrong and terrible, IIHAA. Firstly, logically, there is no reason why the word "splitpeasoup" should link to anything other than a page about split pea soup. But what is worse than this is that the casual reader has no way to parse this sentence for information without clicking on the link. Wrong, terrible, illogical, and wrong. Discuss.
