RSS for Individual Threads May 7, 2006 2:44 PM Subscribe
Is there any way (RSS ;) ?) to track the progress of an individual thread? I would like to be notified of updates to the ones I'm most interested in without having to check the site all the time.
I'm new to MetaFilter, but I did check the FAQ first. Appologies if this is a dead horse or a stupid question.

Use an RSS reader. Most of them will highlight/bold rss feeds that have new items since the last time you read them.

P.S This would probably be better as an AskMe question, since it's "How do I", not discussing a specific feature of MeFi.

@brain_drain, WCityMike, thanks
@blue_beetle the problem is that I don't want a feed on all threads, I want a feed for a particular thread. The RSS for that does not yet exist, AFAIK (sounds like it is being developed).

Okay, is this AskMe or MeTa? I'm wondering about a specific site feature, not how RSS works (I use NetNewsReader and Bloglines). Is "does MeFi have per-thread RSS" not a MeTa question? Was I just not clear?
Since I'm new here I'd appreciate a definitive answer.

There is no official way of doing this. Others have asked, so Matt might be working on it, but I don't know. WCityMike's links are your best bet.

Yeah, this is the right place. It's Metafilter related.

I'll be doing per-thread RSS feeds this week. It's only about two hours of work but I've been putting it off for ages.

Ok, my apologies I misunderstood the question, and gave the wrong answer. Although in my defense, I probably would have screwed up the same way had it been posted to AskMe.

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS for this Thread" ref="http://sequential.org/metarss/?action=Add%20URL&url=$url>I'm only half kidding.
