When notice that their are 10 entries, however you can go forward and backward in the pages. (older - newer)

Also can we suggest tags for anonymous askers, seeing as they can't revise their tags (because sometimes they just aren't descriptive enough)?

Yeah, I copied some code from somewhere else and you shouldn't see the older/newer unless there are more than 50 results.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think tags should be compulsory? Does my head in to see a good post tagless, as I quite often idly wander the site via tags...

Hee. I tend to use tags in that catch-all way myself, just in case. In case of what, I'm not sure.

The problem with that is that some folks don't much care about tags, or even find them repulsive; and those folks didn't sign up to a Metafilter where tags were compulsive or, in many cases, extant at all.

So it may be stepping on a lot of toes—and encouraging defiant, useless tagging—to try and strong-arm 'em in.

I don't personally feel that way at all, mind you. But there has been been vocal opposition to not only compulsory tags but also tags in general.

the one thing that's always puzzled me is that there's no "search by tag" form on the tag page. Sure, it's easy enough to work the magic in the URL, but I'm sure lots of users are puzzled by the interface -- which just shows the most popular tags.

Searching for tag combinations is even less obvious, if you're not already familar with how tags work.
