Can I embed pics June 2, 2006 7:58 PM   Subscribe

Ask Metafilter: I have a few pieces of art I am trying to identify. Can I embed the pics (which I feel will probably lead to more responses), or should I link to my flickr account?

Embed them, but in the More Inside bit, so they're not on the AskMe front page.

cut the pics up and put each piece in a different color bottle and throw them into the arctic ocean...

or, imbed in the MI part as others have said.

this might make a good FAQ question.

Put them in a table inside of an iframe.

Pretend you created them yourself and self-link to your flickr page on the blue. Wait for someone to out you as a fraud and tell you who really created the art.

Kyleg wins. This would ensure the fastest response time and maximum enjoyment for all involved. Everyone loves a good plagiarism pile-on.

b1tr0t, thanks; I didn't know tinyurls expired.

I had the raw html but didn't want to stretch the page out of proportion.

sigh

Your suffering from a misconception—the length of the linked url is a non-issue, as that text is not displayed. Long URLs with pithy link-text are a-okay.

According to TinyURL:
...we will create a tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires.
Do we have evidence of them expiring?

They expire, naturally, if tinyurl ever folds.

Regardless, they should be avoided for uses which are not ad hoc. There is no benefit to using a tinyurl-style mediator when creating a link rather than simple passing around a plaintext url.

"Put them in a table inside of an iframe."

Bingo, bingo.
