My post to Projects generated lots of hits and PR. Thanks! June 27, 2006 7:03 AM   Subscribe

a week ago i made a post to projects of a bug-riddled site i was completely sick of working on. because of you guys, since then it's gotten like 20 bazillion visitors, been on 10 gazillion blogs (good ones, sometimes!) and even got a mention on some tv station in tennessee. the best part is that it isn't even complete enough to really be of any use to anyone! so i'd just like to thank you guys for sticking it on del.icio.us, stumbleupon, your blogs and wherever else and just plain making the internet hype machine work. metafilter rules!
p.s. feedback from projects should probably be sorted by date

...did that just get fixed in like 35 seconds?!

I like Snacksby, it's a fun idea. As you clearly state, it needs help in filling out it's recipe database, but that will happen over time. I thought it was funny that it showed up on Yahoo Daily Picks today (on My Yahoo!), when I had only seen it on Projects a week ago.

Good luck with it.

I taught Snacksby what avocados and beer are. I feel so proud.

I taught it bacon.

I was dying because I couldn't find out why I was getting all of this my.yahoo.com traffic. you have literally saved my life, genefinder.

i was waiting for an incredible avocados + beer recipe, a recipe that never came.

handee, did you teach it "rasher" of bacon? because i had no clue that's what a strip of bacon was called. and then, suddenly, there were rashers of lemon and guinness and eggs and everything else, and that's where the bugs come in.

Huh? There's feedback? Where?
posted by dobbs at 7:29 AM on June 27, 2006

When you vote, you can leave a comment as well.

The feedback is only seen by the person that posted the project, and soma, it was always sorted by date, it's just that you got like 1 or 2 comments a day for a week, so the times look all out of whack.

Thanks, Jess and Matt... and, just so I'm clear, it'll appear right on the project page to the OP? (I got none on mine, which is why I ask.) Thanks!

Yeah, that's what strips of bacon are called.

mathowie: i remember before when looking at it it would say something like:

hey your site is lame!
posted by mathowie on june 21

lol
posted by jessamyn on june 22

but it doesn't look like that anymore,
posted by soma lkzx on june 21

because i swear it didn't have times then, and you could see how everything wasn't in order and stuff. weird.
posted by soma lkzx at 7:48 AM on June 27, 2006

Nope, it's shown times since I built it.
posted by mathowie (staff) at 7:49 AM on June 27, 2006

The commenting feature is newer though. Anyone remember when that started?

projects is the best part, and lowest traffic, of mefi. it's the well hidden digg of mefi, without all the mountains of noise even though it's self-promotion for mefites. nobody even bothers to comment on the posts to projects. it's weird. i left comments on a couple of projects posts i liked and felt like i was committing some big faux pas.

3.2.3 - read this:

The feedback is only seen by the person that posted the project - mathowie

So chances are, people are commenting & you just aren't seeing it.

it really is a great idea, soma

(i never remember to go to projects--i should)

What? They do so.

Here I was thinking I was the only person ever commenting!

i had a similiar experience. projects.mefi didn't actually get me an insane amount of traffic, but a few hot spots picked it up and despite my site specifically excluding IE, i still got a decent amount of traffic.

It's a great idea, even if Instant Oatmeal+NeoCitrin+Peanut Butter got me bupkiss.

dobbsian. Chewy and sweet.

Whether it's buggy or not, the idea/concept is awesome, and so I have hopes that it'll be worked on, fleshed out, etc... The idea/concept also requires group participation in order to work, so I think slapping it on everyone's blog is in all of the users' best interest, right?

Gotta like it when a plan comes together.

Great site, love the design, love the name, love the concept.

There's jack squat for spaghetti-o's, oatmeal, canned corn, powdered milk and peanut butter.

MacGuyver'd be all up in that shit making a briefcase nuke, yo.

A wonderfully delicious briefcase nuke.

But, as others have noted, there's room to grow.

Well, i meant to put this in the feedback, but, a feature i'd love is a way to add an ingredient to my pantry from the ingredient page...

If there is a way, i don't see it. Other than that, i loves it!

is that supposed to be obvious?
