New Music Features July 6, 2006 2:57 PM Subscribe
MeFi Music rev 2 feature blowout!!! Things added today:
- New Charts showing top favorites/playlists added in just the last three days (for new, awesome stuff you might have missed) and favorites/playlists from your contacts (what your friends like, you probably like too).
- playlists have podcast feeds, so you can just add it to iTunes and download the songs directly. When you add new songs to your playlist, iTunes can recheck and pull down those new ones as well.
- tag pages have podcast feeds and an embedded player. Want to hear everything tagged with hiphop in iTunes? Now you can.
- songs/comment history has been added to user pages, including a podcast feed for each and every user so if you want a copy of every song ever done by say, cortex, you can. Also added the embedded player to song history pages.
- more fixes coming later today, but I wanted to get the word out on the new features.

I go on vacation for like a week, and this place gets totally awesome all the sudden. I don't understand any of the new music stuff, and it looks like it is going to take me weeks to read all the Meta threads about it, but I am listening to some pretty damn fine mefi-made music right now. Thank you Metafilter. Thank you for rocking.

Oh, how's the bandwidth for music.metafilter going matt? Do we need to "pony up" some donations ourselves?

for flash player request, try the forums for the player I downloaded, and let me know if you see anyone that got fly-out playing to work.

I especially like that we can now find every song by a particular user. Thanks!

Matt, great job on the music page.
It's super slick and super fast.
Perfect interface.
I've gotten good feedback on my own music and found great music by other mefites there as well.
Very enjoyable A++
Would do business again.
Fast shipping!

Minor nitpick... in the playlists box on the track pages, you can't tell the difference between a title that wraps to two lines and two different tiles. Maybe set the line spacing lower and use a para instead of a br after each line.

(It's particularly bad on this page, since someone used a title that wraps through four lines.)

Is it by design, mistake, or haven't gotten to it that favorited songs don't show up on favorites. Because if it says my contributions have been favorited 20 times, and 5 of those are music, it'll only show me 15 favorited things now, which is not what I'd expect when clicking on the 20. If it's not going to be integrated, please separate it from the total or otherwise note that the tally is off and why.

songs and comments from the Music section are now shown on the pages that list your stuff favorited by others, and stuff favorited by your friends, so it should work now Eideteker.

The list on the front page is only playlists/favorites from the past 3 days, instead of an all-time list like it used to be.

Oh, and this one isn't your fault, Matt, but to all of those who would upload music— make your tags correct, yo. I hate fixing shit, and it makes my Last.Fm all screwy.

klangklangston, what do you mean by correct tags? Misspellings and the like? Or are there tags that people should be using that they aren't?

I've noticed that the "level meters" don't actually meter any levels at all. They just bounce around randomly when the music is playing and stop when it stops.
It drives me crazy.

I'm just saying, if you're going to have a level meter, make it actually meter levels. Maybe you could add a little animated gif of like, a thumping speaker or something.

delmoi, it's a little shareware flash player that saves me on bandwidth, is highly customizable, and looks neat. I'm sorry it didn't come with audiophile accurate EQ bars.

Matt: Thanks on the favorites thing. When adding a track to a playlist, can you take me back to that song's page, so I can go listen to the next song? It's kinda annoying to have to keep double backpaging. I tend to add tracks in bulk, not add one and then listen to my playlist.

Yeah, eventually when I figure some sort of ajax crap out, it'd be nice to add something to a playlist without leaving the page or pausing the song.

This is a common problem even on mp3blogs. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've wanted to say, e.g., "Rev, I love your site but for the love of all that's holy TAG YOUR FUCKING FILES," or "hey, 'Artist' isn't the artist's name, and 'Track' isn't the track."

On the page that shows songs posted by a specific user, such as mine, would it be possible to add the title of the song? Right now it only has the description of the song.
