Does Microsoft's Youtube clone (Screenshot) remind anyone else of some other site?

Give us a hint here, slater, we're not seeing it.

Does anyone else remember waaaay back in the early days when someone stumbled across a site that had pretty much copy-and-pasted the entire style of MetaFilter for their own craptastic site? We pummeled the dirtbag into the ground, waving our torches and pitchforks and screaming for his death.

Good times...good times...

Just because it's blue? The same blue that Microsoft uses on all of their other "Live" sites?

Doofus Magoo writes "Just because it's blue? The same blue that Microsoft uses on all of their other 'Live' sites?"

I haven't seen their other "Live" sites (in fact, I hadn't even heard of "Live" until today, except for perhaps XBox Live). Are they all blue background, dark blue boxes, white print, and yellow links?

I thought all MS Live sites were white and fruity web 2.0 pastels.

It's slightly similar to mefi but the background blue is tweaked and the link colors are more orange. There's no such thing as trademarking a site's color scheme, so people can copy them, they're just color numbers.

Yeah, I mean, there's only so many colors in the world, y'know? And I guess it's 216 "really" web safe colors? Oddly enough blue is one that people... like! And of course we're not even talking identical to MeFi colors here, as mathowie pointed out above.

Why not? Colors (and color schemes) are trademarked all the time.

Jesus Christ! It looks EXACTLY like MetaFilter Videos.

You're right, scarabic. When I saw MeFiVi in my head it was just like that, except mine had a live feed right next to the "Punch over TCP/IP" button.

Jumping off from scarabic's comment, is it possible to embed a youtube video in a fpp or a comment?

soundofsuburbia -- yes, that's it exactly!

Oh what fun we had back then, what with our Internet vigilantism fueled by our callow, youthful abandon.

I may have to go home and dig out the old pitchfork and sharpen the prongs just for old times' sake.

If the new iTunes is any indication, Apple has every intention of taking its fruity Aqua-style lickable interface and turning it into an edgier, more industrial-looking one.

At about the exact same time Microsoft is going to release a jelly interface in its attempt to play catchup with Apple's designs and functionality.

Microsoft Windows will always look old and defunct against Mac OS.

IMHO, as a former visual communications professional, the issue here is about branding. The first thing I "saw" when I looked at the linked picture was MetaFilter. For me, it's just too simmilar to be thought of as original and distinctive. It actually doesn't even look MSie to me; not what I have come to expect. I could also be full of shite.

Am I sure I want to navigate away from their damned page? I hate that popup bullshit! YES! I'm sure I want to navigate away from your damned page! I clicked my back button! And if I'd fucked up and clicked my back button accidentally, and I didn't want to navigate away from your damned page, I'd click the fucking forward button and navigate ahead to your damned page! FUCKING HELL YOU FUCKING POPUP MOFOS!
