Metafilter bumpersticker sighting. September 29, 2006 1:21 AM Subscribe
Another curiousity question (and no idea if this is completely inappropriate.)
I was driving behind a Toyota SUV earlier today in Maryland (New Hampshire Avenue, southbound, at around 445-5pm, after Cloverly, but before Valley Brook Rd) and I found myself staring at a MetaFilter bumper sticker! I've posted a picture in the comments, with the license plate number blacked out.
A) I'm curious as anything to know who this was.
B) Where can I get an awesome bumper sticker to put on my car?
PS: I was driving a black 98 Honda Civic with my headlights on and a bunch of crap hanging from the rearview, if whoever it is wants to know what car I was.
(If this is completely taboo and un-mefi, please delete.)

I'm impressed that you managed to whip your camera out and take a clear picture while you were driving. I've wanted to do that so many times, but evidently I lack the necessary physical ability.

For anonyminity's sake, you should've blacked out the disability registry on the plate.

I'd like to know the license plate. For no good reason other than it'll save me a lot of work googling the person's info and posting it later.

USians will do anything when they're driving which is why they pip New Zealanders as worst drivers in the Western world. Eating and holding a mobile phone conversation is not that uncommon. What you don't see in the pic is the trail of destruction left by sperose lurching all over the road. ;-)
[I'll assume that anyway - pic blocked by firewall for me.]

Hey sperose!
I'm kind of embarrassed - I got the sticker from cafepress when I did a solo cross country trip a few years ago on the off-hand hopes it would spur conversation or even a horn honk (at the time MeFi was probably less well known and "blog" was still an emerging word) - kind of a solidarity tag as I drove through the heart of Bush country. This is the first time it has ever had attention (that I know of).
I'm trying to remember a black 98 Honda Civic in that area yesterday but can't recall anything out of the ordinary.
Thanks RichardP for tracking me down and letting me know about the thread! I'm not sure how he found me. I suppose you could piece it together from my trip website which shows the same shot from further back, but probably there is a freely available database that tracks license plates?

It's true, I just get so hungry when I'm driving and when I eat I like to narrate my meal to a friend on the cellphone. I think the way I do it is perfectly safe, check it out:
I put a brick on the gas pedal and tie two broom sticks to 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock on the wheel, then i get in the back seat with a bucket of chalupas in gravy and throw on some porno in the in-seatback dvd player (I recommend Latvian Gapers 16: Return to Colon Mountain) and then I call my mom or my AA sponsor and let 'er rip. I admit that I once got distracted and drove to New Zealand instead of the Costco in Queens (the tiger prawns are simply not LARGE enough at the one in Brooklyn and I swear that the mute Central American that serves them out to me from the ice packed depths of his mobile lucite prison understands my ravenous soul) but I'm pretty sure no one got hurt, certainly no one American.

Clues from sperose's photo and a minute or two with Google were enough that I didn't think I'd be embarrassing myself by sending you an e-mail pointing to this thread.

As far as I know, there is no such database. Some states do sell license pate number information, but they typically place restrictions on the use of the data. In any case, I didn't ask sperose for the plate details and as far as I know she hasn't provided them to anyone.

5. yeti: When a man draws a face on his (preferably hairy) scrotum, then proceeds to stretch his scrotum out near someone's face. Idealy, the stretched out face on his scrotum will look like a big hairy yeti and frighten the victim. This gives me an idear for a birthday present. *scurries away*
