Unless she's a sock puppet, she probably not familiar with the general conventions of MeFi, since it's her first and only post anywhere on the site.

Did you mean to call her out for an etiquette/policy concern? If yes, then, what a stupid callout. If no, then WASC anyway.

The woman is dialoguing with the advice she is receiving as she receives it. The question, apparently, involves something to do with her personal life and it would seem she has the inside running on that. For this she wins her very own MeTa callout?
This is really not the same thing as overmoderating your own post.
Good luck to you, Dr Cherry, don't be put off by this nrrd nonsense.

People's posts to MeTa are so damn cryptic lately that as a defence mechanism, I've chosen to read them as saying exactly what they say. So this isn't a callout, this is a question: "Does Dr. Cherry hold the record for posting in one's own AskMe thread?"
The answer is: No. I don't know who has the record, but as Plutor points out, 50% response ratios have been observed.
If, wryly, you meant to make a callout instead of a factual question, next time, say what you mean.

Ah, good point.
Well, then, since wryly hasn't pointed out any etiquette or policy issues, the only conclusions are that he picked the wrong category, or he didn't type the callout he intended.
Which brings me back to my original point: If you're going to call someone out, call them out. Don't just type random crap and expect everyone else to guess what problem you have with an issue. Even mathowie has taken to complaining that people making callouts don't bother pointing out behaviour they don't think is appropriate, and explaining why they don't think it's appropriate. Instead, they just point out the behaviour and leave it as a riddle to the rest of us why they think it's a bad thing.

I'll have to second this. Maybe it's some sort of weird fucked up politeness thing where people think if they don't say that someone's doing something bad then it's not like an asshole thing to do to call them out. It's like the functional equivalent of "Just sayin'..." Being cryptic in MeTa serves no useful purpose as near as I can tell and it would be super if people wouldn't do it.

There is nothing in the original post that indicates a "calling out".
It was simply a question, with an easy answer. If wryly wants to go further with it, that's up to him, but otherwise maybe people are jumping the gun with the call out idea.

My rule of thumb for MeFi callouts: if you're considering making a callout, don't. If it's worth a callout, someone else will make it and then if they get flamed it won't be you.

LarryC : "In fact it seems that most MeTa call-outs turn into pile-ons on the person who started the thread."
And, from what I can tell, that's not due to the fact that people will bitch about every callout, but that so many callouts suck. If you call someone out for self-linking, people don't pile onto you. If you call someone out for posting someone's credit card number or private non-googleable information, people don't pile onto you. What people pile onto are crappy callouts, and there are so many that after a while it seems like every callout will result in a pile-on on the caller-outer.

No, I get it. The Deej posted 123 comments (39+4+80). That's surely no accident -- 123? 1-2-3? Easy as 1-2-3? Oh, you think it's so easy, The Deej? Well, it's not so easy. Some of us work hard! Get off your high horse and stop judging us! You think you're all that, but you're not! Nuh-uh! Maybe you should take your "easy as 1-2-3" attitude over to Fark or Slashdot! Stop taunting the members of our peaceful community!
OK, so you've posted two more comments now and you're up to 125. Nice try! You think we didn't notice? Your posting history speaks for itself. You should be ashamed. May Jesus, Mary, and Joseph help us all if The Deej should be allowed to rub our noses in our own failings yet again.

In fact it seems that most MeTa call-outs turn into pile-ons on the person who started the thread.
I think of Metatalk callouts as a sort of morality game: the unspoken question, independent of the substance and the community utility of callout, is whether the crowd will identify more with the prosecutor or the defendant, the caller-out or the called-out.
Is the cited behavior genuinely bad? Is actual behavior even cited? Is the callout phrased in civil language, or is it inflammatory? Does the defendant make a prompt appearance in the thread? A belated one? Does the prosecutor try to moderate the thread? Is contrary evidence abundant? And many other questions.
So many variables—it's honestly fascinating watching, at the meta-game level. I'd love to see someone dissect a hundred callouts and try to find the key points of commonality and contrast, the fulcra across which the group empathy teeters.
