What's the rule/custom on leaving a .sig on posts? -- Mid!

I don't think there's a rule. Personally, I don't see the point, and some members in the past have had long, annoying sigs that tended to bug people (and they said so). People use sigs because they say something about them, and I think they do--whether they say something good or bad about the person, I'm not sure. :-)

can you imagine if someone left an unclosed marquee tag lying around? that would be the coolest thing in the worst possible way.

Zempf's artful display makes me nostalgic. I remember the early seventies, in the less fortunate Lisbon supermarkets, when this sort of thing - though admittedly in bright red LEDS - was quite common over the offal counter. I believe even the NYT had the "latest headlines"(oh, the twinge!)thus parading in Times Square, before the bastards cleaned it up.
OK. zempf, you've obviously not got this from WebMonkey. How did you do it? Have you no love for your posting rights? What are you planning next? An early eighties blinking "Ditto"?
Marquee? I almost tom verlained, man.

MC - It's all thanks to the wonders of the MARQUEE tag. Just do a little <marquee>your text goes here</marquee> and voila, scrolling text. Note, of course, that some people might not appreciate your artistry (much like the many people who were not at all fond of the late, great <blink> tag).

Great, give the Zippos to the pyromaniacs. Matt, I'll give you 15 Swedish Fish if you hardcode something into MeFi that will never allow the MARQUEE tag to be used again.

original post now ajusted:
zempf: I can't get the "blink" tag to work. As you can see the "marquee" is not a problem. I accidently put it between <> in my post, not knowing it would work here.
So, how do I get the blink thingie to work. I promise I'll only try this at home. Trying to learn myself HTML , making lots of mistakes doing it :-( >

Huh? Wattai do wrong? "Offal" and "lights" are polite terms for organ meat, now very fashionable in London and New York, i.e. Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's; pig's trotters everywhere in Manhattan. They are the basis of haggis, sausages and a lot of tasty meals. Plus, I did see those marquee LEDs over the offal counters of Lisbon butchers' shops.
It's not me, Carol Anne, honest! Must you see invasions and indecency everywhere you look? :)

mmmm...haggis

When I lived in Edinburgh for a few months way back when, down in Portobello, I lived around the corner from the '1988 Winner of the Best Haggis in Scotland Family Butcher'.
Good haggis indeed, but I was always a little put off by the 'family butcher' thing on the sign.
