I just wanted to commend Carol Anne for being linkeriffic. Glad you spend so much time here.
Now, if you wanted to point out that, say, "jpoulos really sucks", MeTa is the place for you.

Not going to weigh in on the appropriateness or lack thereof, but I AM going to add my appreciation of CA's tireless contributions of late. CHEER X 3!

Oh dear. I assume machaus posted this to try and counteract some of the free-floating ill-will that's been around here lately, and the intention is not a bad thing, but jpoulos is right, this seems like a really bad idea.

jpoulous: "While I think CA is great, this kind of stuff is probably best kept to email. No?"
I totally disagree. If MeTa is the place to diss people for screwing up in MeFi, then it's also the place to give kudos for people who do well.
However, for future reference I'd prefer if the person doing the commending actually linked to specific threads in question and explain why they think the link in question is good. This way, instead of just citing examples that don't work, we can analyze the links that DO work and why. Positive reinforcement. Maybe it's too goody-two-shoes for some people but I for one would like to hear what people like about MeFi as well as what they don't.
I should point out I'm NOT asking for MeTa to turn into a love-in but if we can objectively analyze what's good about MeFi, maybe the jackasses like me who seem to get everything wrong despite all attempts to the contrary, maybe we can learn to improve our participation by example.
You're on the right track, machaus.

Wow! My very own MetaTalk thread...and debate...and dispute...and blame.
Oh, my goodness. How fast the thread is spun, measured out, and cut off.
Hey, I am linkeriffic! Thanks y'all!

duly noted... I was being lazy.
The examples are too numerous, but CA seems to have a cogent and valid link to post everytime she participates in a discussion. I just wanted to make sure that tireless and unpaid internet research and analysis got some sort of karmic salary.

Can I start a jpoulos is an exceedingly good cake thread, then?
No, Carol Anne deserves our thanks. While we're all getting our knickers into a twist, trying to pinpoint our exact opinion, so as the World won't go without, there she is googling away, looking for the goods that help all of us on our way.
And, to defend Matt's parcimonious use of his sidebar, it really helped that he gave CA's anthrax link the exposure(boy, what a bad choice of words!)she deserved.
And yet Linkerrific of the Month just has to be y2karl for his marvelous "more inside" in his Parthenon thread!
But, hey, aren't we getting too feelgood for our own good here? Come out snarks! You're wanted at the front desk again! :)

I'm all for that, Zach. I like "there have been some great threads this week, such as...." posts. I only object when we single out a single user. I'd object to a "Zachsmind posts some of the worst links" thread too.
Miguel: "exceedingly good cake"? Never heard that one before, but I like it.

jpoulos: it's from my favourite 70's TV advertisement. You saw all these jam tarts, gooseberry pies, jaffa cakes and other untranslatably English cakes, baked by a jovial, white-moustached ex-coronel and, with your student's mouth watering, you'd wait for the punch-line: "Mr. Kipling does make exceedingly good cakes". I expect Mr.Kipling has been bought by Philip Morris or something. But I hope they're still going and all. Anyway, you remind me of that bonomie and if Freud wouldn't have something to try his teeth on here, well, I don't know. :)

I've linked to posts that I may want to refer back to in the future over at my user page. Mostly for my own edification. If someone else wants to use their user page to link to posts they personally think are "the best posts" that'd be cool. But care should be taken to single out best posts and not best posters.
Unless y'all wanna do something like The Oscars or The Emmys. We could make gold statuettes and call them The Mathowies.
Okay maybe that's a bit much..

Mr Kipling never made Jaffa Cakes, Miguel. That would be McVitie's. They never made gooseberry pies either. Only Home Economics teachers or Victorian grandmothers make gooseberry pies.

Thankful but fuming:
My mother makes gooseberry pies, Summer. Also Madeira cake, Dundee cake, Victoria Sponge. What have you young 'uns ever baked to compare with these staples? Huh?
And I make a mean Gooseberry Martini. So there!
Thanks, ceiriog. Arfon's Barmy Army rules!Even Summer won't get this one. Never mind our American friends. Is this taking off-tangents to the limit or what? All I wanted to do was to send jpoulos my love!
Hyyl, Miguel.
