Mefi Not London, then? With all the talk in that earlier thread about Mefiers in the area around the capitol, it would be interesting to know where other British Metafilter regulars live... and whether we can plan a get together also...
Well, if NYC ever did get their act together and have a party, I'm sure it would be glamorous.

Howzabout a MeFi Never-Together at the site of the best fucking barbecue known to man? The Salt Lick right outside of Austin, Texas. It's BYOB, since it's in a dry county, but the ribs and brisket are All-You-Can-Eat. Miguel, can you score us some fine red wine?
Dear, sweet, god...

Mmmm..prime rib and cobbler at The Salt Lick. I can get the wine donated if Miquel can bring the port. Really.

The Salt Lick, oh yes. I am only about 45 minutes away.

Miguel, you won't believe this but I used to live in Dartmouth and was there in July. I was staying in Halifax. Unfortunatley I hired a car not a taxi to go over there but I would reckon it would be close to $15 ?

I'm going to make a doubtless futile attempt to drag this thread back on topic - I study at Cambridge University (in the UK) and I live near Liverpool. So any Mefi meets in those areas would be good - there must be a fair number of Cambridge people here, at least.

(Sorry adrianhon and others, please excuse this last offtopicism). Frasermoo, you unpredictable blackguard! You know that lobster and scallop shop when you get off the Darmouth-Halifax ferry? Does it still exist?
It's funny about Halifax and Canada in general. While you're there, you think it's not that great. But then you miss it terribly. So clean, honest, polite, true, clear.

Not sure about the shop, but the guy who was travelling with me was taken to the dock and fed much lobster. It was my only mission while I was there.
You are right abour clean, honest, true. But you also left out boring. It was great for me to have some of my childhood there, but I couldn't live there now.

Let's just form a NeverFilter group, consisting of all those living in the back of beyond, whose sole aims in life are to read about glamorous MeFi parties in NYC, SF, Chicago and London, learn to glow in the dark from the envy of it all and swear never to meet anywhere, at whatever time anyone likes.
Meanwhile, we can entertain ourselves by mentally planning our never-togethers. I propose the Cougar Beverage Room, Dartmouth, N.S., Canada, 28 August 2002, 18:00 sharp. They stock Molson's and keep a bottle of Seagram's Vodka in the back. Any one know how much the cab fare is from Halifax?
