This thread made me think about members who no longer participate in MeFi. Which AWOL member do you miss the most?

Holgate, clavdivs, aaron, Summer, solistrato, anapestic, grangousier, cCranium, UncleJoe, lia, hincandenza...I could go on but I got into a lot of trouble the last time I posted a missing persons list. So I'm emailing all of them personally over the coming weeks. ;)
posted by MiguelCardoso at 11:48 AM on January 30, 2002

clavdivs' last posted on Monday, so I don't think he qualifies as missing, although he is creeping up to that 48 hour missing person's legal threshold.

solistrato == sjc. ummm, I hope I'm not blowing his cover or anything by saying so; really I'm just resentful that I only have the one username myself.

I wonder if iceberg273 was being funny up there? 'Cause before I posted re: DoubleScottGuy, I did truly think "you know, where's thirteen been?" ---and there thirteen was.

All the people here these days, there's probably a lot of people I "miss" who just happen to be spending all their MeFi time in threads I don't read.

Actually, that's a good reason why holgate left. He was trying to finish his PhD (now finished), and spending too much time shouting past ljromanoff. My guess is that once Holgate was gone, ljr ceased to have any interest in metafilter.

And no, they were not the same person.

Metafilter clearly has a love/hate relationship with Aaron. In my mind, he was epitomized by the statement, "He may be a jerk, but he's OUR jerk."

The collective IQ kinda dropped when Holgate left. Hope he returns.

And I kinda vote for thirteen to post more often (not just in this thread). Although the one sure way I know of making that happen is mentioning Roosevelt.

I remember post after post of bickering being interrupted by someone making sense, and knowing before I reached the name at the bottom that it was Zeldman posting. I used to think of him as the only adult on the Internet.

Not that his voice is now inaccessible, but I thought the regular sprinkling of posts by people noted for their success at www.somewhereelse - such as Zeldman, such as lileks, such as jkottke, such as honkzilla - is one of the features that made this place worth coming back to.
