Mefi Poll on User Weblog April 20, 2002 8:30 PM   Subscribe

She's to modest to self-link to it, but the iconatrix has a fun mefi-related poll going at her own weblog(scroll down). So far only 5 people have answered and you know that ain't enough brothers and sisters...

I guess I have to vote for Miguel since he's too nice a guy to do it himself.

I've been checking the stats..if we're so full of "all-around nice guys" how come we fight so much?

I voted for myself, of course, but it wasn't a vote for me, as it was just an honest reply to what my posting style is. I'd never actually vote for myself, as I'm not qualified to do anything.
I, of course, post most like dong_resin, except for those periods when I'm simultaneously trying to kick heroin and also see how many angry bees I can cram into my mouth, during which times I post like BlueTrain.

If it were a popularity contest I'd be torn between clavdivs and settle, neither of whom have yet to bore me even a little. We should all be so non-linear.
Maybe I should huff more oven cleaner.

Best name for a bar has to be "Chez Guavara"

Mines a Guiness and a bowl of olives.
posted by Spoon at 5:31 AM on April 21, 2002

Oh yes, Spoon. Yes, yes, yes! A Guinness, a bowl of olives... and a dozen oysters. At eleven in the morning. Three others to follow. A steak and kidney pie, with extra kidneys, for lunch. Though you're probably spoilt, oyster and cockle-wise, coming from Leamington-feckin'-Spa.

Preferably in Dublin, in the Shelbourne Hotel bar, best in the known world. I was once sitting there, supping Guinness and Colchester oysters, when all the Rolling Stones walked in, joking and not showing off as if they'd been born Irish. Ron Wood stole an oyster from my plate and then offered me a bottle of Midleton whiskey.

That's the sort of atmosphere we need - OK, OK, that we have already - here on MetaFilter. Perhaps I could even forgive StTWC. No matter what you're prepared for, aggressive, disloyal and impolite Canadians are always a surprise, however much you like them and how high they're rated on iconomy's ranking...

Cool. I'm both abrasive AND honest. That's sweet! Thanks, Iconomy. =) A better compliment I've not received in some time. You did forget to add "dryly sarcastic," "obnoxiously self-deprecating" and "longwinded" to my description, but then I wouldn't be lumped in the same category with BlueTrain, who's a respectable poster and is often able to get a point across with less words than I use, again to BlueTrain's credit. I consider that yet another compliment but feel sorry for Bluetrain because comparatively that's an insult; to be lumped in the same category with me. As for this being an A-List, it can't be because I'm on the list. I never have been nor never shall be on any A-List. It would be like giving Carrot Top an academy award. It's simply not done.

As of this moment, and posted here for posterity's sake, the results look something like this:

clavdivs (inscrutable) 30.0%
Stavros, Doug (very bitter !) 23.7%
Iconomy (pandering kiss ass) 11.9%
rebeccablood, moz (restraint, style) 8.9%
rodii (sly, witty, knowing) 8.3%
BlueTrain, ZachsMind (abrasive, honest) 7.6%
jonmc (all-around nice guy) 2.7%
rcade, dreama (common sense, authority) 1.8%
mathowie (everyman) 1.7%

jonmc asks why all the fighting? One of the great things about MeFi is the...hell, human side. Fark, hashlot, etc. dont have that. Matt has a great thing here and with the up coming tech stuff, MeFi, if it is around, will be a much different place.(and matt will finally be super-rich) Dong-Resin is right (he always is) it is an etheral community, but a community none-the-less. I'm an Ass, few would depute this, I've come to a point where anger overrides reason. Gotta stop it. I've also come to read others blogs, K, Fes, miguels- but its all portuguese, so i cant read it -I need some translator...stuff there chief Stavs, Kindall, mathowie (the man with the golden eye) dharts page. (i apologize...again:( Of course Rodiis' and the ever cool, cruel.com. lj has a nice one. alot of brilliant writers here, too many to name. I mention this, because i'm debating a blog. when jonmc posted his thread on his situation, then aaron rang in, man i could not respond, like a deer with halogen eyes. I wanted to scream, send what little money i had, e-mail, anything to say i identify and dont let "them" win. but i didnt, couldnt. why? cause i'm an ass at times and it might be taken wrong. yeah, i jabber alot...but the porn bombs etc. have taken there toll, many have taken down thier e-mails for this reason. Dhart mentioned something a while back, that his outlook, or view changes almost daily at this point. (post 9-11) He hit something. alot of mefis are niether liberal nor conservitive. ( i usually judge a person on how funny they think dr. Strangelove is.) I think some people might have even questioned his patriotism....and this angered me to no end. but i kept silent. he doesnt need someone like me to sound off. MeFi is like this....not Zeligs, thats college. (though a good analogy for a baseline) Bloggin is the future, i dont need to tell ya all this. I mean Big, why, because it stumps the pure capitalist bastards who are scrambling to find a easy way to make a buck...hehehehe. perhaps for the first time, a medium of exchange has been created that cannot be easily controlled. o.k. DR, i'm ready for that donky ride. (ass straps. fashion or utility?)

I'd read clavdivs. Or try to, anyway. I think I'll send over a boatload of <P> tags to get you going, OK?

Thanks for the shout-out, there, too. I think what I said was that since 9/11 I've felt liberated and I don't guarantee my political reactions in advance. Some things have flipped, others haven't at all. On good days, it's fun exposing myself to things I would have violently disagreed with a year ago. On bad days -- well, one or two have been here. :-S

My take on the poll -- which I didn't answer, at this point -- was that people were voting for the type of post they liked to read more than the type of poster they believe they are. It says what's your posting style? rather than your favorite, after all. I respectfully submit that clavidivs, with a couple of exceptions, is practically in a class by himself. No way are 30% of MeFi posters in there with him ...

As for my "page", well, it will be back shortly. I know. I keep saying that.

rcade is right, this list is should be formed on authority not on style, a lot of Vets are on that list...i'd vote rodii. Dean_Paxton turned me on to the filter (dont blame him) hes been a friend (a brother really) and mentor for many a year. He is very busy and he mentioned a blog for me a year ago...and i think i'm ready. Rcade, rodii and I, along with a few others got into a blowout about avatars last year, very heated. Me the newbie arguing with these guys? I got creamed....humble to some degree. (what was i thinking takin on a guy that has a site called cruel.com:) I used to visit rodiis' site when it was up. 30%? someones skewing, not me. Pracowity- Settle is something of a bull in china shop, but...i (was) the same, even worse. no doubt he has a brain. Can someone help me with the translator stuff for miguels site? thanks dhart, it means alot. i consider (always have) you to be THE 'workhorse' poster. One of the few to counter holgate and other titans. No one wants to hear, i yell because i care. sorta like bloodletting. this applies to owillis and that 'stupid; comment i made. Actually the brittney reference is good, his posting lately seems to be sparse, yet to the point.

It wasn't supposed to be a popularity contest - more of a "which person here does your posting style most resemble" thing. I should have been more specific, but I didn't expect this to get posted to MetaTalk and so I only expected 20 or so votes if I was lucky. I also didn't block revoting so a few people *ahem* who shall remain nameless *ahem* voted a whole bunch of times ;)
For clavdivs. Possibly for the wrong reasons but since this wasn't the most scientific of polls, who cares. It was fun and everyone approached it in the spirit it was intended - a silly meaningless diversion. Thanks for not making a big deal out of it.

That clavdivs sure is popular.
