Offensive to daughters or no, some of those posts were pretty funny. "Maybe now that the Chinese have Viagra they'll stop killing rhinos to get boners" I thought was sublime.

Sort of off-topic, another recent favorite headline from Fark: "Horse doing fine after throwing Jewel to the ground".

But I'm not sure I understand, Sheauga. Are you condemning the posts for fear the daughters of the world are reading Metafilter? Or was it something else I'm not getting?

I think sheauga was simply inviting discussion on what [s]he saw as a fairly bawdy trend in MeFi posts/comments. The 'daughters' thing was simply an ironic nod to o2b's comment, given this context.

eyeballkid, you should know better by now.
Everyone here is required to read absolutely every single thing that gets posted, with no will of their own exerted to filter through what they'd like to take in or not.

This is why everyone is so pissy.
They're fucking exhausted.

well, that's sort of the point, people dig posts that are a little racy, tawdry, or otherwise a change from whatever they normally are up to. That's why I like reading all the posts about people with jobs... I agree that the hookers-and-bitches talk is getting a bit thick lately, but I usually find that just shifting the topic to tiny penises can sometimes staunch the flow somewhat, to coin a phrase. No community is perfect, and trading some dorky weewee jokes for out and out flamebaiting and namecalling seems like an okay tradeoff, to me.

The Habbo Hotel doesn't really seem like a daughter-safe site itself, unless they've cleaned up their act since last October.

I'd like to point out that my post that was singled out was a parody of everything else in that thread.

If I was a parent.........

I would have shown them my job, not my diversion. I would have introduced them to my co-workers. I would have given them something to talkabout tomorrow with their friends.

The last thing I would have done is introduce them to a place like this. In good time, they will find places like this. In good time I am sure they would disagree with me.

But that's ok.

In fact, it is expected.

Cheers

From the "What we're fighting for department" - A terrorist viewpoint on "lifestyle"

"I was a man who loved the joys of life and was very happy," he said ... "I had no relationship to religion and lived in the European style: alcohol, women and hashish ... I was very shaken and decided to change my life, which had previously been devoted on my own well-being, to focus on my own country ..." (via MeFi)

Um sheauga, maybe you should have deleted that painting of topless water nymphs beguiling some poor dude from your blog before you posted this link. You know, throwing stones at glass houses by people without sin and all that. Won't somebody please think of the children?

It is a beautiful painting though.
