I also would like to propose a Michigan MeFi gathering.

I'd dress as either Patton or myself.

I'm dressing as a Metafilter fuckwit. Apparently, they look just like everybody else.

Alas, I am nowhere near Michigan.

That's it! Celine, Martha, don the bikinis and get in the kiddie pool filled with jello!

Think of anything scarier than that, and you win something that will actually turn out to be nothing, but it will leave you satisfied for at least 48 seconds.

And I'm going as a hopping bunny with a bottle of Jagermeister on its head.

pirate for me.

i ran out of time, really, but oddly enough, the clothes already in my closet are pretty perfect for a pirate. i've been practicing my "YAAAARRRSS" all day, and i'm going to get up a list of bad pirate jokes to antagonize people with.

also: i'll be able to drink rum on the street, since it's part of my costume.

but what i really wanted to go as was voltron.

I am at work, dressed as the Technology Wizard. I have a long black gown with wizardly long, slashed sleeves, a Harry Potter style wizard's hat (no brim) with stars and moons on it,
ghost earrings that flash red, a purple ring that flashes red and green and my magic wand. I have already fixed 5 computers by waving my wand over them! By the way, under my gown I am wearing cargo pants, my Librarian Avenger t-shirt and orange American Eagle sneakers, to point out that technology wizards are geeks underneath it all.

I bought enough body paint to paint my body blue. The question is, how long will it take to put it all on.

i have some first-hand hard scientific data for your question. i went as smurfette to a party this weekend and only painted my head and arms, which took well over an hour and used the entire container of makeup, which the sales girl said would "do 20 faces" . . . but i wanted to be really really blue. the fun part was putting the makeup on and being so blue. you'll get a whole new perspective on the color of your lips and teeth. taking it off at 3am after drinking was quite a challenge.

. . . oh where were you when i needed you, papa smurf! everyone kept asking me where you were all night long. my date, who dressed as a garden gnome, was a hit but not quite the papa to my smurf . . .

dash_slot-, I have a perfect Sussex, public school accent, with not a trace of the demotic or the foreign. I wish I didn't, as it's notoriously unsexy, but there you are, I try to make up for it in other ways. When I've talked to MeFi fellow members on the phone, I can always spot the disappointment in their voices as they'd clearly looked forward to am hilarious Manuel-from-Fawlty-Towers accent. I imagine you have an accent like Inspector Morse, don't you? :)

I hardly saw any costumes on the street today, and most were pretty half-assed. I started at a new office so I couldn't risk it, but come on, not everyone was starting at a new office! "Funcouver" (stupid promotion to make Vancouver more fun) my aunt fanny.

My favourite is my beauty queen outfit. Shocking, shocking bright lime green silk dress with matching 3/4 length jacket. Both from the 60s. I wear it with a sash and tiara, bright blue eyeshadow. It's the only time I wear my hair up.

I'm imagining how useful a MetaFilter soundboard would be, along the lines of the Homer Simpson or Howard Stern ones, where you could listen to posters' voices saying well-known MetaFilter phrases.

Or even better, something like an international version of that wonderful Zip Code map, but with samples of the local members. I'll bet it covers the range of American, British and Australian accents, at the very least- Imagine clicking Ann Arbor and listening to clavdivs say "Let me get this straight. This broomstick, it vibrates?"

Hmmm... I wonder who has the Southernest or most exotic accent here? Gotta be ColdChef, right?

Usually, I just stick a raisin in my navel and go a cookie. But a few years ago I dressed as a Pictish king (several species of small furry animals not included) and painted myself blue.
