Threads Have Titles Now? November 12, 2002 7:31 PM   Subscribe

Hey - if this isn't a new feature, or if I missed a memo, please tell me, but does each thread have it's own title now? I only ask because when I just thought better of posting to the "pancakes" thread and saw "Prattling On About Pancakes" up in the title bar, it startled me a wee bit, and now I see that each thread is similarly titled. New thing?

There's a bit of an explanation here Commish. Matt is trying to make his site and this one more compatible with RSS readers.

Ah. And now I see that it's only the most recent five or so threads, so it's not like he's going back and titling them all, but still, this seems like an awful lot of work. Couldn't the poster put in his or her own title? (But if that's the case, I guess I'll find out soon enough).

Yep, there's the new field for "title", big as life on the "Post a Link" page. Okay, then - I guess there's no real point to this thread any more either.

Thanks, Matt!

we could always prattle on about pancakes...

I think that's been done before. We could check now though, I bet.

This Rules! I can finaly add MeFi to NetNewsWire, and make some sense of the threads!

Thanks Matt!

Ah-ha! I get it now. For a minute I though Matt'd singled my post out for some reason. Silly me.

Thanks, Matt, for re-titling my post, 'cause I got it wrong, I think, when I built the pancake extravaganza - it really threw me that I couldn't post until I had a "title" .... its a great feature, and I like it a lot (now that I understand what it does), but I could have used some additional directions on the preview page when I was trying to write the post....
PS: yhbc - what made you think better of it?

anastasiav - it was just a lame joke about the folks who first thought to grab "www.pancakes.com", and how much they may have had to pay for the domain name. After I had it up in preview, I decided it wasn't really funny, or appropriate for the thread. Would that I do that more often.

Hint - it involved "silver dollar pancakes".

Ah. I see.

I'm always flattered when people say I create good posts, but I also always find myself wondering why I never get many comments (I know, I know, its not about the comments, but still...), so I just thought I'd ask....

You should have seen the test thread.

Hint: It involved Google and socks.

It was a great post, anastasiav. It's just that anything I could think to post in a thread about pancakes would look like attempted thread derailment.

Yay! Could we have it on lofi too?

Google's going to love this. Expect to see Mefi threads ranking higher in Google searches.

The number of comments is in inverse proportion to the awesomeness of the post.

Possible problem: a search for "Prattling On About Pancakes" gives me this.

Yay, thanks Matt!

Now for heavens sake can someone please post that picture of the rabbit with the non-pancake on its head? It's been 15 comments, and nobody's posted it yet!?!?

I mean, someone's got to do it.

This is a truth.

I like this as now I have one less process to think make sure I do when composing a post. I wonder if all the discussions on how to make a post better generated this, as I came to a similar conclusion for me. The title would give a clue to those that would rather know the subject than in the words of Gomer Pyle, Surprise?! Surprise!?!.

I also always find myself wondering why I never get many comments

Some FPPs have taken the words out of me, so no comment. I now make sure to leave something of positive note when this does happen, when appropriate.
