Tired of double-posting, even though I search'n'search the key words. What am I doing wrong?

Search the domain name of the url and the url itself.

Say it's http://www.blah.com/section/page.html search for that url and then search for blah.com

Next search for all the major keywords, one word at a time.

If nothing still turns up, and you know from a casual scan of the front page that the topic hasn't been recently discussed, feel free to post it. If turns out to be a double post, at least you can mention that you did all of the above.

Doule posts happen, taking all these steps just reduces the chances of them occuring.

Double posts not Doule posts

It's not exactly a double post, in my opinion--especially with the addition of the information in taumeson's comment--I went off half cocked because I remembered the quotation from fold_and_mutilate's post. Sometimes, by the way, running a phrase or sentence from the text in Google will bring up links you'd miss otherwise.

The "double post" isn't a double post at all, really. It's two different sites with much the same content, sure., but by mixing these three things:

1. a newbie
2. incredibly valid in light of the current situation
3. the new worldview with which to think about the quote

I find I have a high tolerance for an almost-double post. Quelle interessant!

Did I say newbie? crap...got my names mixed up. skip #1.

#s 2 and 3 are still valid, though.

Sigh, you caught me... I'll co-operate now. I'd like to first call my lawyer.

What am I doing wrong?

You're not reading Metafilter regularly. It's up to you to play catch up: at least scan all the posts made since you last visited, if not read them. That'll go a long way to resolving the problem.

Unfortunately, this method is usually ignored because people think to themselves, "Wow! I haven't seen this before. Surely I'm the first. I'm so in touch. I'm ahead of the curve. I'm a trend-beater."

you're a trend-beater? watch out, you might go blind.
