Blogging software promotional post April 24, 2003 3:46 PM   Subscribe

MoveableType is cool, but this post is just three generic links and a press release. Just because it's cool software that some of us use doesn't make this a good post. (And from the Post a Thread to MetaTalk page, "if posting about general weblog-related items, please post to Blogroots.com instead.")

Not even close. This is a great post.

Matt did post this to blogroots a few days ago, and he didn't post it here, so it would seem he might agree with you a little bit kirkaracha.

But, that said this was going to end up here, and it belongs here. This was a classic MeFi type post. There's much, much worse we need to worry about getting rid of before we go after posts like this.

I agree with kirkaracha. There is a long and well-established tradition of discouraging weblogger "inside baseball" posts on MetaFilter. Blogroots is where this stuff belongs.

I wish we still had that "general weblogs related" category here. Blogroots is pretty thin gruel most of the time.

Also, there was a factual error in the post, as I am not a tyke.

Oops! I didn't realize that there were multiple definitions of "tyke". I was referring to the "wee tyke" meaning, anildash.

You mention:
(And from the Post a Thread to MetaTalk page, "if posting about general weblog-related items, please post to Blogroots.com instead.")
The link was posted to the front page, not to Metatalk. I think the guidline you mention is saying that meta-blogging threads should go to Blogroots. This kind of dev announcement is (or was) a traditional type of post on Metafilter, no?

Also, compared to the truckload of poop that was posted today, I can't see that this meets the threshold for any kind of complaint.

JJG: I agree with kirkaracha. There is a long and well-established tradition of discouraging weblogger "inside baseball" posts on MetaFilter. Blogroots is where this stuff belongs.

And yet there's also a well-established tradition of letting this go when it involves sufficiently-popular topics, ie: OSX, 10.1.5, 10.2, 10.3, ad nauseum.

That said, I agree with Kirkaracha.

I'm glad for the FPP and this thread just to have read crunchburger's killer!

ya know, if i EVER meet that 'hampsterdance.com' bitch, i'm going to tie her up and brand the word RETSMAH across her face so that evertime she looks in the mirror she's reminded that there is no 'P' in hamster.

Do it to music, Sarge! Celtic deserve a song and dance! Served the Goodview crapsters/ Buenavista Social Club right for trying to stop any football playing on the field. Vivó Celtic! Porto FC need to be taken down a notch and only our longlost ancestors can do it!

We need many, many more of these Eurotrash-only, unashamedly fitba exclusives here on the Yankfilter! :)

Because (most) sports links (but not all) go to SportsFilter, where they tend to be more welcome.
