I've seen these all over the place, and was just wondering. Here's an example.

Xammerboy, as the last person to make this mistake, please accept my sincere condolances.

It was my fault for posting all those acronyms without periods. As soon as there are enough to cover the spaces I neglected to put between the letters, people will stop.

So... how many times does a question get asked in Metatalk before the answer gets written into the posting page?

Someone get off your ass and make a good FAQ. Cause I'm not going to. I like my ass right where it is.

There really is only one sensible response to such a question:

When you stare into the period, the period also stares into you.

Instead of writing a whole new FAQ, I'd suggest the MeTa posting page send users looking for help to the Wiki. Feel free to adjust the explanation.

Just for the record: NASA, POTUS, SCUBA, SNAFU - acronyms. OMG, ODB, DOA, WTF - not acronyms.

Oh, and welcome to MetaTalk, xammerboy. You can check out any time you like, but ...

While you're at it, why isn't there a link to askme from metafilter's front page?

Okay, I searched for "period", and didn't get a result. Feel free to delete away.

What does it mean when someone posts just a period "."?

It means it's time for someone to post a Metatalk thread asking why people do that.

When you see the period, it's the sign for the wild hormonal mood swings in MetaTalk to begin.

I'm glad to see everyone helping the questionner and not wasting the thread with non-witty, inane responses. Whew! Glad you guys ducked that bullet.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find these weedy little dots of mourning completely vile - so mawkish, so sentimental. If you're sad that someone is dead, bloody well say so!

(I nearly passed out with rage in the recent Peel obit thread at this idiocy - the man was punk as fuck in his curmudgeonly way, and the best tribute folk could come up with was a fucking mimsy wee dot?)
