It's time this thread had time alone - Funny, but is this what we want on our front page?

Unintended consequence, but that tagging really helps the reader figure out what a post is about, when the post wording itself is ambiguous, and, you know, shitty. I wonder how hard it would be for matt to make the tagging display on the front page?

I'm guessing not that hard, but it might clutter things up.

Leave it alone, it's not going to bite you or call you during dinner.

Can this issue be a part of the larger issue of providing useful descriptions to any links posted to the front page?

I'm rather boring and fairly dumb, so I don't like challenges.

We very badly need to give the quonsar post a rest. Front page posts linking to MeFi threads, MeTa threads and other fairly random links are not going anywhere pretty.

http://www.metafilter.com/tags/quonsar

now returns 1 invisible tag. Not to pick on the poor guy. Just noticed and thought that might need to be considered, or fixed eventually....

post first, tag second should go on a giant post-it note around here much like pants first, shoes second. ;)

The post sucked, but fandango_matt's "You forgot Poland" comment made me laugh out loud.

jessamyn- Are you starting to regret taking on mod duties yet? ;)

Unintended consequence, but that tagging really helps the reader figure out what a post is about, when the post wording itself is ambiguous, and, you know, shitty.

I see what you're getting at, and I would like to see tags on the FP, but I think your reasoning is flawed- we need better posts, not the crutch of tags to figure them out.

i like those kinds of posts once in a while--they wake up my brain.

(is jess the antimatt? matt1 and matt2? robin to matt's batman? stimpy to his ren? ernie to his bert? patrick to his spongebob?....)

(Well. It's the story of a crow who drinks this potion which transforms him into a completely different but exactly identical crow!

Voices by Edward G. Robinson and Audrey Meadows, trying to imitate each other. It's pretty sexy, truth be told. Two thumbs up, way, way up!)

*shivers--this post is an 802.11; that one a 213.45B...*

amberglow: they're all 802.11b for me....

Seriously, I hope we never have to stoop to paying OCLC. I say we go Library of Congress.

who gets the money? you really have to pay to use Dewey Decimal? too weird.

Huh. Call me crazy but I kinda liked the post.

*crazy motherfucker!*

Not necessarily one single BOTW link that absolutely needed attention, but a collection of them on a theme. A headline collage built on a catchy phrase. And compact. And oh I feel the sentiment. Don't you? What? Homepage real estate? Give me this over 1 more line of [unnamed]'s Iraq dissertation.

The true mistake was mentioning quonsar, grateful. Are you familiar with the term "shitlist?"

Incidentally I just heard from grateful and I guess this was a banning offense.

Seems a bit... I dunno - ferrous?

That's so wrong--matt admitted he was cranky yesterday, and reinstated quonsar and stynxno--grateful better be reinstated too--he did nothing wrong but be creative.

jess: if you're co-modding, do something please.

My understanding is that it was just a pre-emptive time-out to make sure it wasn't a tag-bomb situation starting up. Since we all have limited attention and time, sometimes it's hard to sit and wait to see if things get all fuckered up. It wasn't a tag-bomb, grateful wasn't up to anything, he/she sent a nice note, and should be up and running again. I IMed mathowie and reminded him to "unban" him.
