Could we get timestamps on our contacts? March 3, 2005 1:01 PM Subscribe
Not that I need another pony, but is there a chance we could get timestamps on our contacts?
Since what you really want to know is what inspired the "contact", and since all comments have an individual html anchor tag, why not allow that anchor to be entered with each contact, and then link the text of the contact to that anchor?
Yes, it's weird not to know why people link to you; I have 441 "fans" (and 37 "freaks") on Slashdot, and in most cases I haven't the slightest idea what comments of mine inspired them to link to me. I have seven links here, and while I suspect most were for my defense of the constipation/answer to steve_at_linwood, I really don't know.

graventy, I can solve this for you: I linked to you because you seem like a smart guy, and your comments are often insightful.

Ha ha! Fooled another one! You were one question, but I've got a couple of others that I linked to a long time ago, and I have no reason why. I have no idea why I'm linked to jammer and jgiliam.

People link to me because they think I'm brilliant and sexy. Or they feel sorry for me and don't want me to kill myself. or both. or something.

Some time back a member remarked that someone who was completely unknown to her, had marked her as a relative and while she wasn't overly worried about it, found it a little disconcerting. I also thought it was an odd thing to do.
I figure most of the people I mark as a contact, don't have a clue who I am so I never know what to put, with the result I don't put anything. Of course I chose jonmc because he is brilliant and sexy but as those terms are not available, could we perhaps have a wider list to choose from?

That user was grapefruitmoon as seen here.
My list of descriptors ("met co-worker colleague child muse crush date sweetheart") is perhaps slightly tinged with personal fantasy, but nevertheless an undeniably accurate reflection of my feelings towards her. And perhaps all Icelandic women.

Ryvar is that in connection with what I said? Because neither you or grapefruitmoon are the person I was referring to. I didn't mention name the person involved as a courtesy.

It would also be useful to find out why others linked to me (and other members).
Granted, I don't actually have too many contacts. But it would be nice to know why I have the ones I do.
