Dang. Missed it by *that much*. I was in Cleveland last weekend.

Great Lakes Brewery!!! I think that's a tremendous choice. I know socializing is the main point of this meetup but I hope I won't be the only person interested in exploring the menu. I've been meaning to get there for a while now. I really like the kind of food they serve and I've heard very good things about it. I'm not much for beer but they have a pretty good reputation.

The other two are certainly acceptable as well. April 2nd is also acceptable but if it turns out to be inconvenient for others then I'd probably be able to accommodate any other date.

Basically, I'm up for whatever and whenever. Thanks for taking the initiative to organize this. I'm looking forward to seeing my fellow Cleveland MeFites.

Stuart_s:

Get the Bread Pudding w/Jack Daniels sauce. It's well worth it.

You should join us xena!

Incidentally, the April 2nd date will mark my one year anniversary as a MeFite. I like Great Lakes Brewery as the meetup place too. I heartily encourage the newer Cleveland MeFites to come! picklebird, googly, StephenV, jsares, horhey, I'm looking at you.

Also the older members: Shane, Avogadro, Recockulous, and boomchicka, please come.

And anyone else I missed. There. I called you all out. Bring it.

I'll probably be at Cleveland-Hopkins as the meetup takes place. Curses!

Also the older members: Shane...

AH HA Ha HA!

AT LAST I AM OLDER MEFI MAN!

Tremble, ye noobs.

Yeah, okay, sure, GLBrewery. The bullethole behind the bar put there by Eliot Ness is fake, though, and be warned: they'll sigh and roll their eyes and treat you like a tourist-idiot if you ask to see it.

Is it non-smoking? I have allergies.

Thanks, sciurus.

It is smoke-free Shane. Also looks like they have a few vegetarian dishes, for those so inclined.

So, who else is coming? At the very least it sounds like there will be a reunion of the Turbulent Trio.

So, who else is coming? At the very least it sounds like there will be a reunion of the Turbulent Trio.

If we're expecting a light crowd, maybe three or four of us, we can probably anticipate a lack of wild drunken hijinks and crazed socializing. Stu and sciurus and I have already met, after all. Maybe we should make potential plans for a nice interesting evening?

stuart_s is hyped about the food, which is good. Let's have a nice meal at GLB and maybe a few brews.

Other ideas for after:

It's too bad the Cleveland International Film fest is over in April, but the Cedar Lee always has great films. Right now Jeunet's (of Jeunet/Caro and Amelie and one of my all-time faves, Delicatessen, fame) latest gem A Long Engagement is playing. Pulp Fiction, Woody Allen's Melinda and Melinda, and Rebecca Miller's (Arthur Miller's daughter) Ballad of Jack and Rose with Daniel Day Lewis should be playing that night.

Also, my mouth is watering at the prospect of seeing the Animation Show at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinemateque (schedule here, scroll down.) It's early, however, at 8:00. Nicotina is playing at 9:45.

And we could always have more food, dessert and coffee, or a shot of scotch after that.

Who's up for some carousing? Any other ideas?

Well, I've got April Fool's Day plans for The Animation Show, and have already seen A Long Engagement. It is too bad that Realms of the Unreal doesn't start until the 8th, but I'm willing to watch anything else. Dessert, coffee and scotch all sound tasty as well. I can scrounge around to find out if any places like Algebra Tea House or Lucky's Café are having poetry readings if y'all dig that.

Sorry about the late reply - picklebird and I were away on vacation last week and I only came across this by chance. We'd be up for anything, but probably wouldn't both be able to make it on the 2nd because of a prior commitment. Any chance of making it for the 3rd? Or I can join later in the evening...
posted by googly at 12:57 PM on March 16, 2005

Yes! Great Lakes Brewery is a good choice. Googly and I will definitely make it if we can. Is Sunday night the 3rd a possibility for people? If the 2nd is a done deal, we can probably make it after 9 pm or so. And we are on the east side, so any of the other suggestions are okay too.

The 3rd works for me as well. I'll send Shane and stuart_s an email pointing 'em back here. Hope you can make it!

Sounds good. What time? GL Brewery?
posted by Shane at 5:48 AM on March 18, 2005

The third is fine with me, too.

I'd say 7pm at the GLB. The kitchen closes at 8 and they stop serving brew at 9. We can play it by ear from there if we wish...

As it stands:

Who: sciurus, Shane, stuart_s, googly, picklebird
What: Cleveland Meetup
When: Sunday April 3rd at 7:00pm
Where: Great Lakes Brewery
Why: Because I say so.
How: Stop asking questions.
