I'd like to say thank you to jessamyn for her outstanding contributions to AskMe. She's contributed helpful and informative answers and links on a broad variety of questions, including some of mine, and raises the overall standard for answers.

Jeez.

Jessamyn is a librarian, and she proves it on AskMe repeatedly, finding information and reference sources for all kinds of people. On personal questions she's compassionate and helpful.

I stand by my attempt to be nice and recognize good work.

Jessamyn is neat. I'm sorry she had to delete my comment about poop. Sometimes the poop demands to speak in a loud voice. I'm working on it.

While we're here, I'd like to thank all the questioners. It's at least as hard to ask a good question as it is to answer one. I'm amazed at how much I learn from AskMe every day, and the questions get everything started.

Nothing wrong with a little positive feedback... Librarians are cool. My mother was a librarian and she couldn't have done what jess does here.

By the powerlessness granted in me, I hereby declare every August 15th Jessamyn Appreciation Day. (Is she blushing yet? I hope this all makes her blush. 24 hours of blushing once a year is good for your blood flow...)

While I also appreciate the help that both matthowie and jessamyn give, I'm not sure a metatalk post is the best way to express it (though it could offset some of the negative karma from the constant callouts).

A couple of other way's to show thanks would be a follow up note in the ask thread where someone was helpful, or a private e-mail. Another, if you're really feeling grateful, would be to exercise the donation link and to put a note in there about how much something was appreciated.

I do agree with the sentiment, I'm just not sure it's a good trend to start.

Oh hey this is nice, thanks, glad I was helpful. The best thing about AskMe is that it's filled with a bunch of crazy-helpful people who know all sorts of things and don't mind sharing them for free. It's my favorite library extension.

I'll post a MeTa thread later, but I'll be in NYC on Labor Day which is also my birthday. Anyone for a Brooklyn/Manhattan meetup?

I disagree. Not to join the suck up team, but it seems she catches a lot of shit in her editorial decisions. I mean, I disagree with some many of them, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the one doing that job, and I know if I was the one doing it, I wouldn't be all that inclined to be helpful to you (or me, for that matter, and I'm really nice!)

Doesn't it mean that as online communities grow in size, mundane tasks become unmanageable and require taking on other hands? Then, of course, one or two more people are needed, then you have a cabal. . . then begins the revolution.
