Looking for a webcomic
I've been unsuccessfully trying to search for a webcomic posted in the comments (maybe a couple/few years ago?) about a nerd 'Rip Van Winkle' illustrating the difference between the promise of 'nerds then' -- perhaps around 30 years back -- to the comparative letdown of 'nerds now'. Ring any bells? I thought it might have been SMBC, but looking through the archives, I'm pretty sure it's not. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :)
Looking for a comment on Metafilter and search is failing me.
Some time in the relatively recent past there was a discussion on one of Metafilter's sites wherein a user posted a snarky line something like "Hey Jimmy, don't get raped" in a discussion of an anti-rape or abuse meme/campaign that was current on Facebook at the time. Search is failing me.
Looking for a comment about persimmons
It's persimmon season, and for the last few years I've been trying to remember a rhyme I read on metafilter that helped you remember how you should eat the two different kinds. It starts with "if it's shaped like a disk, eat it crisp; if it's shaped like a torpedo..."-- I don't remember the rest. [more inside]
Please Help Me Find an AskMe Answer I Posted
About 3 years ago, I posted an AskMe comment in a thread that I *thought* started off, "I grew up in Hell." It got a lot of favorites, even recently, which freaks me out a bit because the description of my childhood was so raw. Weird to see people are still reading that thread!
I wanted to reference it for this current question, but I could not find it.
Can anyone find it?
The original thread was really long, and was an AskMe from a man that was engaged to a woman with deep emotional problems.
Thanks for your help!
You know, just in case I want to write something for the Fringe Festival...
I'm looking for a comment that I just can't find and want to read again. It detailed a version of Sex In The City as performed as a Beckett-like Black Box stage production. The women wailed a chorus of " THE SHOES" someone said " I fear I am not fecund". I have tried every permutation I could think of with no success. I'm 99% sure I read it here.
Walmart supplier comment
Apropos of this thread, I'm trying to find a MetaFillter comment from a few years ago in which the commenter related a story about a friend or family member whose company made a product that Walmart became interested in selling. [more inside]
How to search favorites for posts/comments by a certain user
Is there a way to search my favorites for comments I have favorited by a specific user? [more inside]
Searching within a category across Ask comments?

This is the future, I was promised perpetual motion machines!
I recall reading relatively recently (maybe within the past 3 months?) on the Blue about a comment listing some consequences if the law of Conservation of Energy is wrong. One of my coworkers just got into some "over-unity" nonsense, and I need to show him what for. I'm having some trouble Googling for it, or I wouldn't ask. Thanks in advance!
FTW
I wanted to point out a simply magnificent couple of comments about the Google Book Settlement by one of our members, grimmelm, or James Grimmelmann, as he’s know in the real world. [more inside]
Search Through User's Activity?
Would it be possible to have a search box on Activity subpages -- in other words, a search function that limits itself to a single user's comments or posts? [more inside]
Play me off
Did I hallucinate a Metafilter comment? I remember reading the line "Play him hither, Lute Cat" on Metafilter recently and though it was so hilarious I needed to illustrate it. I wanted to give credit to the original commenter, but I can't for the life of me find the comment. All my styles of google-fu have failed me. Did this comment actually exist?
Why it's rational to believe what scientists say
I'm looking for a comment on Mefi or AskMe where someone gave an extended quote from a scientist/commentator (maybe Richard Feynman), explaining why it's rational for a layperson to believe what scientists say, even if you haven't figured out the mechanics of how they arrived at their conclusions. The gist was that it's sufficient just to know that the scientists are generally skilled at figuring things out. (That's probably oversimplifying, which is why I want to find the actual passage.) can we find double posts in comments?
New member; first post; searched and searched; usual story. Then this comment, by furiousthought, pointing to the fact that my link had already been posted in a thread (albeit, in my defense, long before I joined and cryptically referenced). So I wonder whether the automatic URL search facility which exists when you preview a front page post could possibly be extended to include URLS mentioned in comments? At the very least, we could thank the first users to link to it. Nobody has the time to read all the threads or click on all the links in comments and searches, whether MetaFilter or Google, often fail to point to cryptically described links.
Forgive me if this is impossible to achieve, stupid or has been asked before, of course!
