UpdateFilter: while I was waiting in line for an iPhone with my friend yesterday (for him not for me) I was catching up on a little work. I was showing my friend the MeFi admin interface and someone looked over my shoulder and said "is that MetaFilter?" I said yes, was he a member? He said no but
a video that he had made got linked on MeFi last February and had catapulted him to mini-stardom for a few weeks. He gave me some backstory on the movie....

A freaky unfortunate turn of events: As an update on
a very old thread on nudism that questioned and debated the gray area between nude adults and nudist children in the setting of a nudist colony,
one defender of nudist culture from that discussion was
arrested on charges of child sex abuse late last year (still being held awaiting trial afaict). It's freaky to go back and re-read the debate knowing what eventually came to pass.

I believe the deadline for the MeFi Design Contest has passed. Does anybody who entered have the nerve to show off their actual entries to the MeFi public? I have half a notion to, but I don't want to be the first (or anything before sixth) to expose my web design shortcomings...

AU may back off unsuccessful "Pacific Solution"
Howard himself may be clearing the ground for a back down. In a marked departure from his election campaign rhetoric, he said in an interview last week that turning asylum seekers' boats back to sea was "completely inhuman."
That's not just marked, it's a 180! There was a bit of interest in this story here a while ago, but I thought this new wrinkle in AU's aid-for-beds deal with Pacific nations didn't merit another "FPP." (see also

Considering how snopes happy we are, what is the policy on follow-up threads? I just read the 'penis in a bottle' was actually a penis shaped fungus.
[PIC]Would this make a double post? I can't see the benefits of putting this new info into the old thread as no one is going to read it. Shall we let them wander about in ignorance?
