What DO we do about follow-ups? October 12, 2005 8:42 PM   Subscribe

When does a FPP deserve a follow up thread and where should one post it? (more inside)

I had an impulse to post a follow up to the gore for Porn thread. Last week, I wanted to post this obituary for Hawaii comedian Ray Bumatai as a follow up to a Metafilter thread I started a couple years ago. I stopped myself since I figured neither was really worthy as a stand alone thread on the blue.

On the other hand, it seems like an odd thing to post on MetaTalk - though I note that this has been done with increasing frequency lately. So, where should follow ups end up?

The porn thread's still open, so the followup should go there.

Personally I wouldn't post just the obituary. Maybe supplement it with a link to the original thread (which you've got) and an appreciation or two so people get a better idea of who he was.

Argh, and somebody asked this three days ago. Apparently, I need to read more.

Joey: You're asking about where followups for the blue belong. That thread was regarding followups for the green. Distinct questions, with the same short-term answer and probably the same ideal solution. And no, I don't know what the ideal solution would be.

Plutor: Apparently, I need to read the the thread that I belatedly search for a little more carefully. I agree, though, that the basic idea in that thead was probably a good short-term solution.

Anyhow, thanks for the responses.
