What does it mean to say "Don't make this the _____ show"?
Over in this post, Artw was taking a stand that no one else in the thread was. And he did it by providing close readings, links, and cogent arguments.
He was told "don't turn this into the Artw show." I'm wondering what that means. [more inside]
If you're gay and in the military you get what you deserve, huh?
This comment in an AskMe thread posted by a gay veteran wanting suggestions for how to convince his military friends of the importance of considering gay issues in the coming election may not break the guidelines, but it's incredibly wrong-headed and I wanted to take issue with it here.
Mission Accomplished
Is there a point to this other than to encourage a pissfest?
Religious / Political Threads Largely Repetitive
MetaFilter discussions about religion and politics tend to have comments which are basically the same as other MetaFilter discussions about religion and politics.
Why was a question about Limbaugh's and Hannity's reaction to the election deleted?
Alright, this is just lame -- I asked a very specific question related to the election and it got deleted. I wanted to find a capsule summary of how Rush and Hannity were playing post-election as Wednesday programming opened. If my post is considered too redundant or inflammatory, fine, but telling me to go listen to the radio is kind of callous and rude. I said I missed the coverage and as it is, out where I live I don't even know if we get the shows. You all don't have to repost it; but I'm just kind of teed off.
Is our children learning is verboten
So have we really reached the point where posting a direct quote from the President is considered too vile a slander to let stand (twice)?
AskMe gets Gore-y
Is it necessary to politicize Ask Metafilter? [More inside.]
Are we the anti-freep?
Does anyone else find themselves annoyed by the mirror-image-of-freep qualities of this?
Another 4 years of BushFilter
It seems at the moment, that the US President will not change and will last another four years. I'm going to admit that I considered it a small bonus that if there was a victory for the contender, there was a glimmer of hope that the culture of MeFi might have shifted away from politics. Do you think that would have happened? We have another four years ahead of us...is it time to finally bury the dead horse and just admit, yes, the Blue is (and perhaps has always been) a community political weblog now? There's always AskMeFi I say.
With so much Bush on MeFi, maybe it's time to start bush.metafilter.com?
There are 32 instances of the word Bush on the MeFi front page. How about we start http://bush.metafitler.com? Or maybe just take over BushFilter?
New policy on election/iraq/political posts?
So, I notice there's a link in the sidebar to Devoter, and I was just wondering: is there a new policy about election/iraq/political posts? Should they be moved over to Devoter? Are you going to start deleting political threads here, Matt?
Jokes in AskMe are no good
Can we please make it stop? It's bad enough that we really want a 100+ post thread about same sex marriage every day. Do we have to drag it into AskMe?
Don't say the I-word
I wish to take my turn beating the dead horse [more inside].
A political broadside
Am I the only one that doesn't like FPPs that begin the political arguement in the post itself. See a post today for what I mean. Nothing against The Jesse Helms, but the links don't point to anything new. It appears to me to be a political broadside instead of interesting information. IMHO, interesting information is what a 'metafilter' is supposed to provide.
I thought the idea of MeFi was to let discussion occur in the comments, not on the front page.
Or am I way off base and should I head back to Slashdot & the WWDN forums?
