I love reading MetaFilter on my phone! I have a couple discussion prompts/pony requests about it.

Obviously we all love Metafilter or we wouldn't be here posting and reading day after day... But, if there was one thing you could change/modify about your Metafilter experience, what would it be?

Given the regular and predictable performance issues with the site, and my limited understanding of the infrastructure behind the current implementation, when is the Great Rewrite planned?

Would it be a huge inconvenience to actually have Post Titles heading posts on the blue? Yea, I understand the face of the blue is tried and true, however, some, if not all, posts need "Headlines".
Why even have them if they only show up AFTER you check into the post/thread?
(not complaining, I love Mefi!)

Is it feasible to have a proper [more inside] feature for the blue? It would be nice if there was a
trivial way for the gods to save space without having to delete otherwise worthy threads such as
this.

Is there any way of having an overlapping system of tags to categorize these MetaTalk posts? So for 'feature requests' that could be a sub-tag of either the 'Metafilter', 'Ask Metafilter' or 'Metatalk' tags. So when I want to see what is being discussed about improving Ask Metafilter I start by selecting that tag and then start clicking the sub tags to get more specific. Finally, the reason I am asking is because I am concerned about the flooding of questions on AskMe and the thing I would do is have a separate section for technology questions as those questions seem to be at least 50% of all questions asked. Cheers.

Howdy. I'm searching for a post that I think was made here awhile back of people carrying ridiculous amounts of stuff while riding a bike. I can't find it [maybe it wasn't here]. Anyway, in the course of searching for it I also took a gander through the FAQ in the hopes that I could find information on the best way to search MeFi... [mi]

A wee pony for the holidays: How about a "More Inside" option for the Blue, so that interesting posts like
this one are not consistently derailed by people pissing and moaning about "too many paragraphs on the front page" or some other such useless pedantry.

A pair of tag-related pony-requests: I've been looking for tag search for a while, and just today discovered it exists on the
Metafilter search page. Would it be possible to:
- put a copy of the tag search on the "Tags" page?
- add the same sort of tag searching in AskMe?
Thanks!

lofi.mefi works for the main Metafilter page, but not AskMe, MeTa, etc. More inside.

Would it be possible to import the old Blogroots threads into Metafilter proper, perhaps under the
"blogroots" tag? Just for posterity's sake.

It's possible for an AskMeFi poster to mark responses as best answers. It's possible for anyone to flag an answer as a fantastic comment. Why not amalgamate the two and have all the top answers in one place? Then, why not highlight all comments flagged as fantastic in AskMeFi, MetaFilter and MetaTalk the way best answers are currently highlighted in AskMeFi?

I suggest we do another contest like amberglow's, on October 1 prehaps? There wouldd be no prizes from me but if someone else steps up and offers that would be ideal. I wont be posting anything because frankly I suck at posts lately. Anyone up to this? After all the crap/shit posts lately, we need happier MeFi days here!!

How's about getting Live Preview for posting new FPPs on MeFi and MeTa? I think it would be even more useful there than it is for comments.

A suggestion to improve Metafilter: When a poster replies to his own post, would it be possible to mark it as such, such as starting out the post with "Poster: ", or maybe each poster could do this manually to make the thread more readable. Just an idea.

Hi, would a "filter user comments" option be a lot to ask? There are a few users who just never really say anything useful or contributory, and I think if I could just filter them out it would be nice.

Minor feature request: a via field on the blue's posting page. As part of the redesign, I'd love to see an optional field for including a "via" link. Two reasons: (1) it would encourage posters to acknowledge the source of the link, if applicable; and (2) it would allow
some interesting statistics to be generated from the aggregation of via data.

What about a Best of the Best of the Blue?
It would be kind of interesting to see which of the top posts (not sure how that would be defined) is voted as the best of the best.

Drat! Foiled again! If anyone needs a pony that helps prevent doubleposts, it's me. I search (google) and search (MeFi), come up empty, post, and soon discover that I've been had. We've talked about such a pony that uses a keyword, category, or subject engine... how's it coming?

I have an idea for a new addition to the MeFi family of products... MoJo!
MetaonlineJournalism - A subsection of MetaFilter (like MetaTalk) where stories or rumors that need further investigation, research, or verification are actively worked on by webloggers, ideally working together to determine the truth of the matter.
This, I think, is increasingly important, since MeFi posts fade out a lot quicker than they used to, due to posting frequency. MetaOnlineJournalism posts might be around long enough to determine the truth of the matter, and would be presented in an environment that would ideally be far more about collaborative reporting, and far less about flaming.
I want my MoJo!

Crazy idea: What if Matt removes the paragraph/linefeed tag from the front page and all text formatting and adds a 'first post/more inside' box to the post a link page? The front page is simply cluttered and annoying when people have a lot to say directly on the front page. Perhaps even a character limit. The less of
this the better.

On the front page I sometimes mistake a
thread with an empty line and then another link in the comment for two separate threads. I don't associate all of the text with a single post because the spacing is the same as it would be for two posts. It's a minor thing and I realize there was more to the comment when I view it, but what about adding a delimiter to make it easier to tell threads apart? Or am I the only one that makes this mistake?

Can we please have some mechanism to prevent double posts? it's pretty simple to implement, and should'nt increase any load on the server... For example,
this post has many double posts...

We should be able to refer to a topic (i.e. whole of thread) using single link - in a way that will allow us to send it via email to other people who are likely to be interested, but don't use metafilter regularly.

Matt -- thanks for your work over the past few days -- will you indulge a suggestion? If the front page is being rendered manually, could the text be smaller, as in the same size as this text here (10pt is it?). With so many threads appearing every few moments it may make the front page more readable and the difference between discussion, news, solace and troll threads more apparent.

Uh-oh Zach's got another stupid idea... A thought that has apparently been percolating in my head just surfaced:
MeFi Primer: How Best To Post.
Of course, I don't know how, so I'm asking for input... [more]

Recently there's been an awful lot of posts each day on Metafilter. This is great, except that topics I'm involved with are flying down the page very quickly, and I'm losing track of what discussions I'm in. So, I had an idea.
Now, after reading the earlier thread about 'limiting the site to 10,000 users', perhaps my idea is good. Perhaps it's bad. It's probably not implementable, but here it is anyway.
Why not allow people to choose a category for their postings? Just like
Memepool does. For example.. 'Crazy'.. 'Fad'.. 'Politics'.. etc. While the front page would continue to show all posts, it would nice to filter them myself, and not have front page posts moderated by someone else (which seems likely in the future). No?

it would be neat if we could bookmark metafilter and metatalk threads to see when they change. for example, if you enter a comment, you can bookmark the thread for when further comments have been made in response. at the moment, i'm using
spyonit.com, but it'd definitely be neat if there was an incorporated feature at metafilter for everyone to use. email notification would be another option.

A suggestion for you, Matt. You might consider adding some easy way for you to move topics lock, stock and barrel, comments and all, from MetaFilter to MetaTalk. Then politely leave a link behind saying you've done it.
And having an enormous ego and desire for self-aggrandizement, I think you should have a section here in MetaTalk for people to post things about their websites. I have some things coming up I wouldn't mind the entire universe knowing about (as opposed to both people who come to my site), but I won't be so rude as to drop it into MetaFilter.
