Pony Request: Highlight 'fantastic comment' flagged posts like AskMe's 'best answers' January 7, 2006 10:35 AM Subscribe
It's possible for an AskMeFi poster to mark responses as best answers. It's possible for anyone to flag an answer as a fantastic comment. Why not amalgamate the two and have all the top answers in one place? Then, why not highlight all comments flagged as fantastic in AskMeFi, MetaFilter and MetaTalk the way best answers are currently highlighted in AskMeFi?
There's no doubt that's a good point, but as a user of the fantastic answers page there are already some very bizarre responses flagged (jokey answers, for example) so it isn't like this list is necessarily refined excellence to begin with. Further, I'm more than happy to see exact, brief matters-of-fact responses in the list of fantastic responses. The more such answers are made accessible, the more people will realise such answers are the salt of AskMeFi and the more people will respond in kind. I am prepared to see whether I'm in a minority in this respect, though.

Some people really hate the flagging system. The current setup lets them ignore it entirely as long as they don't click that best answers link.

well, I think there's some importance in letting the asker which answers are best.
Other then that, I guess people are worried about the flagging system being gamed, and then we'd need flags for flags and soforth.

You're suggesting (in part) that we have highlighted comments in meta and mefi threads? I really, really don't like that idea.

we have a relationship thing, right? i admit i've neve used it, but i suspect it's all touchy feely. could it be extended to include more negative things? then we could flag each other as idiots and the like.
