It has lately come to my attention that there are several people here who are interested in creating and consuming fanworks. How would the mods - and the community at large - feel about adding an
Archive of Our Own widget to the Social Apps part of the profile? They seem to exist at least to some extent because they are available on Dreamwidth (see
my profile).

Would it be possible to have the "Contact Activity" feed available as RSS? I always forget it's there until i happen to be on the main page and notice that my friends have been posting cool stuff.

So Metafilter right now consists of *
Metafilter / MetaTalk- launched in 1999. Askmefi - launched in 2003. Projects - launched in 2005. Music - launched in 2006. Jobs - launched 2006. IRL - launched ??
Now I love, love, love, Meta and all associated sub-sites but I was wondering if perhaps a writing / short story sub-site (for original works) was also possible.?**
[*all dates taken from wikipedia]
[**apologies if this has already been discussed, I searched and couldn't find reference to a writing sub-site on MetaTalk]

I like the sidebar on the front page, and how it shows nifty stuff and contact activity. When I'm on my phone, I don't have that, and it makes me feel sad inside. Would the powers that be consider adding a line to the menu on the mobile site that would link to the sidebar content? In my head, this looks exactly like what we have on the front page, except tinier and by itself.

Hi-
I'm much more of a Green user than a Blue user. However, I came across an article that might be interesting for FPP submission that was published in December.
I realized that I didn't really have any way of finding out whether this particular article had been posted before, without knowing the keywords that someone might have used to describe it.
Might it be possible to create a 'search by url' function, either in the 'new post' page or somewhere else, to be able to paste in a url and see whether it's been linked to on MeFi ever? It seems like this might help cut down on duplicates (especially if it was part of the new post submission process).
...or am i missing something super obvious?

Feature or script: popup boxes to display single-image deeplinks in posts and comments? (like the youtube popups.)

Would it be possible to view the "Related Posts" section (that shows up at the bottom of pages on the Blue and Green,) when we preview our posts? Is it a bandwidth-intensive operation?

Pony: a 'best-answer' kind of highlight on the comment that currently has the most favorites, at any given time, in any given thread. Better yet, what if each comment actually had a "best comment in thread" link next to the "+", and the comment currently with the most votes for "best" would be highlighted in the thread?

Extremely minor pony request: After I use the "link" button in data entry boxes on "
Create a New Post" pages, the view shifts to the very beginning of the text in the box. (The scroll bar goes all the way back to the top.) I tend to create posts which have a lot of links in them that fill up those boxes quickly. To find my place after creating a link, I then need to scroll down within the box. Would it possible to not have that happen? Can the cursor and view be left at the end of the link that has just been added instead?

Would it be possible to have a search box on Activity subpages -- in other words, a search function that limits itself to a single user's comments or posts?

I recently had a MeFi post deleted. I know it will still show up in my Metafilter Recent Activity for a while, but once it goes from there, is there any way to track it and any deleted posts from my past?

I've just noticed that the text that I type into the search box beneath the links to sub-sites does not carry over when I browse from sub-site to sub-site. I know that Google (on FF 3.011) does this between its different sub-sites and I find it very useful because it eliminates the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V keystrokes (or retyping for the less computer savvy) when you are using the same search terms between sub-sites.

I often come across amusing tidbits on the Internets that I'd like to post to Metafilter, but I don't for fear of the collective
Meh. It would be great if there were a Metafilter B-Side for the Second-Best-Of-The-Web sites (such as this little bit
hilarity) that folks might enjoy but aren't necessarily top shelf. I suspect that such a B-Side will actually improve the site-wide quality of the posts because folks might be less apt to self censor -- in fact a post-to-Metafilter-from-the-B-Side-button a la Projects would be a great way to make that happen. So, a double pony request, I guess.

How about enclosing individual comments in a div? This would make the site friendlier to things like greasemonkey (if this is considered desirable).

I Like Ponies: On the user page, where it says "posted X questions and X answers to Ask MetaFilter", it would be very nifty to add a counter of how many "best answers" this user has received on AskMe. It'll be a positive way to increase the signal/noise ratio -- and while it may provoke some competition, it'll be competition to be the most helpful and comprehensive, which should lead to good things for Ask MeFi.
This is a post from Jairus , who cannot post due to MetaTalk posting limits. Ironically, his last post was about changing the posting limits on MetaTalk.)

I use it. I'm not guaranteeing anyone else would even care. Read my description of how I read MeFi and what features would make it easier for me inside.

I was just reading over the
QuickTopics thread, and a thought came to mind that a solution akin to what Raging Bull used to do, namely offering a check box in the posting area that actually allows the poster to self-label their comment as off-topic (OT) or not.
Basically, all the posts that are self-labeled as off-topic would show-up as a less contrasting text color (say a bluish-white, or something) in the thread. This will give users a visual clue that can help them better navigate the thread. I'm also thinking that a little glyph out on the main page to indicate off-topic material might also be useful, if only to invite the curious into the thread. This might, though, encourage too much OT. I don't know.
What do you think?

What if you could set an option to hide everything that isn't new? Meaning, MetaFilter only shows me new topics, and topics that have new comments posted to them.
