If I want to ask MeFites for help on a friend's survey for her dissertation, where is the proper place to post it, if anywhere is the proper place to post it?

My AskMe from this morning was answered beautifully, with depth and consideration. As it is right now, at 20:07 EST, it is a beautiful little anthology on How to Read. I would shamelessly nominate it for the sidebar.

Please, please abort this offensive, trolling post that links primarily to two, year-old NYT articles and is basically an editorial for eugenics.

I tried to gift a membership to a minor internet celebrity, but I got the message "It appears your friend already has an account, as this email address is in use". Really? That's cool -- now who is it? Can there be a way of entering in an address and getting a username back, so I can add that account to my contacts?

I'm vaguely interested in the Ralph Wiggum thread but at 350+ comments I'm afraid to enter. Please summarize the general drift of it, including excerpts and/or links to any particularly entertaining portions. Thank you.

Wish we had a follow-up on this thread — guy sounded like a psycho (as you might imagine from my response). The user apparently hasn't posted since then.

So despite reading the MeFi Wiki and crunchland's profile, I managed to screw up my FPP ( this one ) and it now appears on the home page without a title. Would one of the admins be kind enough to correct the link title of the post? You may also suggest suitable means of atonement for this extremely n00b-ish screwup.

My first-ever pony request: In a given thread, what about a link next to each member's individual comments, that is titled "see all comments by this member in this thread." So, say, I want to see all of mathowie's comments in a particular thread, I click on that link and it gives me a page with just mathowie's comments in that thread. I know you can see all of a member's comments by going to their user page, but it's kind of cumbersome to click back and forth and you can't view all the comments together. It would be nice to have them all thrown up on one page. It would help us evaluate the position or argument that the person is developing throughout the thread.

Could one of these maybe get side-barred? It's not the easiest thing to search for, and it's been asked twice within a 7 day period...

Is MeFi protected against CSRF? I know the logout link isn't (should be a form button anyway) and could be triggered by displaying an image to a MeFi user, but if the forms are vulnerable things could get nasty (imagine someone posting a link that changes your prefs, or makes you create a post, etc.). Just askin'...

Just a thought....in what location could we put blue requests? Ie. if I wanted someone to make an excellent post about something or someone I had interest in, but I don't have the expertise or the time, where would such a request be made?

In this post, please delete the link to http://www.barnesreview.org/ from the text "What happened next is told in his own words". I didn't realize that the barnes review was a holocaust denier's journal.

Pony: at the end of the new "MetaFilter users near this user" query slap an "order by miles ascending". Not a big deal. I just want to stalk people in order, s'all. (That's a pretty damned sweet feature, btw).

Can we get another way to pay for accounts then paypal? I'd rather pay $20 for an account through another service then use them. There are several, relatively cheap credit card transaction services out there.

So we have a bunch of intelligent os x programmers out there, right? Anybody willing and able to create a dashboard widget that spits out the past 10 threads in MeFi, or favorites that someone might want to track, or threads with the latest comments, etc? I just upgraded to Tiger and love the widgets; unfortunately, not enough of them are seriously practical for me. This, on the other hand, would be very useful.

Hey Matt: I have egg on my face. Would it be possible for you to fix my stupid spelling mistake? Or just delete the thread. I'm really sorry.

I work for a large organisation that has launched a new web product. Its a paid for service. I'd like to post a link in the blue, as I am personally interested in what people think about it. I do not work on the product, but I do use it. Is this against policy?

All I want to know is -- roughly how much traffic does MetaFilter get? There must be a fair amount of people unable to become members.

Please, if your front page post links to anywhere remotely not worksafe, could you make sure this is properly flagged?
posted by salmacis on Oct 16, 2002 - 41 comments

On the front page I sometimes mistake a thread with an empty line and then another link in the comment for two separate threads. I don't associate all of the text with a single post because the spacing is the same as it would be for two posts. It's a minor thing and I realize there was more to the comment when I view it, but what about adding a delimiter to make it easier to tell threads apart? Or am I the only one that makes this mistake?

Out of respect for the dead, and in the interest of keeping this community a respectable forum, could Matt please delete the link to the Daniel Pearl video . . . And perhaps place a moratorium on this kind of posting in the future? MetaFilter isn't Stile or Rotten.com, and I'd prefer the site not sink to that level.

How about a bookmark for the lovely 'powered by' bar? It'd make it even easier to point people to how cool it is.

Curious why posts go chronologically down the page and not up (most recent at top). At least as an option, this would seem a good idea.

So when's that feature gonna come to negate repeat links? There've been two posts today -- last page on net, Simpsons bootlegs -- that have been reruns of things we've seen within the last month.
