The Scody World Tour begins Sept. 23. New York, you're first! [+]

I'll be arriving from L.A. on Friday evening (9/23) and departing Monday night (9/26) for London. Here's the thing: Saturday night (9/24) is probably the best time for the most folks (I'm guessing), but the musical-love-of-my-life Paul Weller is playing that night at Roseland. Of course I'd like to go to the concert, but I'd love to meet the maximum number of NYMeFites! So would a Sunday night meetup (9/25) be out of the question? Can I possibly have my cake and eat it too? If Saturday works best for most folks, though, then by all means let's do it then.

As for locations, I have noticed that jon seems particularly fond of Manitoba's, though other options are fine with me. I like whiskey and well-stocked jukeboxes, if that helps.

London MeFites, stay tuned for a thread for your fair city! I'll be there Sept. 27-Oct. 3, though I need to double-check with my friends on some dates for specific plans we've made.

I'd get so jealous I'd probably stab him.

then I'd surrender, of course. and join a union.

while breaking into song:
Sì, vendetta, tremenda vendetta
di quest'anima è solo desio...
di punirti già l'ora saffretta,
che fatale per te tuonerà.
Come fulmin scagliato da Dio,
te colpire il buffone saprà.

while breaking into song:

or alternately:

Vengono a Portarci Via Ah! Ah!*

title of a song I asked matteo to translate to check accuracy. long story

I'm in for a party, but I'll bow out on the Weller. Not that I don't like him, but my James McMurtry tickets have exhausted the show fund for awhile.

and now he (and the rest of you) can hear it (yousendit.com, follow the directions, and enjoy, paisan)

jonmc: Not to derail but make sure James does "Choctaw Bingo" for y'all. I caught him at the dive bar around the corner from my place and he brought the house down with that tune.

To derail even further this little dive bar is The Outland in Springfield, Mo. This tiny little place brings in the most phenomenal acts. Jonathon Richman plays here about once a year for $5 cover to about 25 people. This
famous Twangbangers album was recorded there. The quality of acts in this nowhere place is because this bar is next door to the recording studio owned by Alt-Country producer/legend Lou Whitney (of the Morrels). Many of these acts just come in to visit Lou and end up getting booked in this tiny place. Missouri's best-kept secret.

I now return your thread to you, It may not be NY, but I had to give my town some props.

I'm hoping he does "Where's Johnny," and "I'm Not From Here," as well.

I'd be up for a meetup too -- also, since it's scrolled off the page, I wanted to refresh everyone's memory about this proposed one.

Sunday works best for me anyway, since I'll be in Philly Saturday and Sunday morning.

Sadly, I don't think I"ll be able to...I'll be at the small press expo that Saturday, and I almost always can't do Sundays after 5pm.

Then Sunday (9/25) it shall be! Huzzah! Now all that remains to be determined is time and place. Is there a bar that specializes in melon-flavored drinks? Mmmm....melons.

Amberglow, if you're really serious about seeing Weller on Saturday, email me and we'll figure out details. Same for anyone else who wants to come to the show, too -- I think it would be grand fun to get a crew of MeFites to attend. (Jon, sorry you won't be there. Enjoy James McMurtry!)

oh matteo, I lurrrrve you too. Please don't hold it against Weller just 'cause he's going to be my next husband one of these days.

Let us Chicagoans know when you swing through here (take a hard right after the Island).

Where's Philadelphia on the list? Don't tell me we have to wait 'til 2006!
posted by soyjoy at 1:02 PM on September 9, 2005

Heh. I've been meaning to get back to Chi since I visited last year... I had thought I might be there this weekend, actually, but duties related to being a friend's Maid of (dis)Honor intervened. And as for Philly, I've never been and always wanted to go! Maybe I'll have to plan a second little trek eastwards later in the fall...

*preemptively stabs Paul Weller*
posted by matteo at 7:20 AM on September 10, 2005

Unless matteo stabs Jesús López-Cobos, I'm busy until midnight on the 24th...but i'm pretty gay for melons, so keep me posted if you gather on Saturday night for after-hours.
