Hey bay area, let's have a meetup!

Which Bay Area are we talking about? There are several in the US.

I have no ideas as to where, just having moved to the general area, but sometime before the 26th of this month would be good.

The consensus seems to be -- the darker, the more bar-like, the better. And you can't have a successful meetup without Caitlinb.

I'd be up for it, depending on the day.

It's possible to have a successful meetup without caitlinb provided one has a sufficient number of pirates, but the best meetups involve both caitlinb and pirates1.

1In theory, at least.

Enough pirates to offset global warming? Caitlinb certainly makes the place warmer when she's there.

matildaben and caitlinb, say hi to eachother for me.
posted by jonmc at 4:40 PM on September 13, 2005

jon, I'm still stuck in Seattle, but next time she comes by here, I'll do just that.

I'd love to finally make it to a meetup - Sunday or Monday night is best. I'll put in a vote for the East Bay as well - wasn't there one at Jupiter last winter?

yarrrr!

I heard of a meetup once that didn't have Caitlinb or pirates. I was a disaster. Only the flying-monkey saved it from being a complete waste of time.

I'll second the East Bay and Jupiter suggestions...

having moved to the general area...

Traitor!

Count me in. I'll be living in Berkeley as of Friday, and this might be a chance to meet some people...

I'm up for a meetup, and Berkeley/Jupiter works for me too. It has the requisite low light and necessary social lubricants.
posted by ambrosia at 9:56 AM on September 14, 2005

How about Monday the 19th? Time? Location within Jupiter?
posted by expialidocious at 10:14 AM on September 14, 2005

A few days ago I was all "Where'd kenko go?". Now, I know. Have fun at your meet-up!
posted by safetyfork at 11:42 AM on September 14, 2005

I thought caitlinb was a pirate.
posted by ikkyu2 at 12:54 PM on September 14, 2005

Jupiter, home of fine ales and excellent pizza, is near the Downtown Berkeley BART station. I think I could swing Monday the 19th. I could be there sevenish, but other people probably have jobs and shit. I hope caitlinb can make it--I haven't seen her in a month of Sundays.

scarabic might or might not make it: I think he's posing for a calendar shoot or something.
posted by squirrel at 4:00 PM on September 14, 2005

I'm always down for an East Bay meetup - but could I request a date other than the Monday the 19th? I hate to be a whiner but it really is the culminating deadline of a 3-month project for me at work and I will likely be stuck here late.

Tues 9/20?
Weds 9/21?
Thurs?
Fri?

Jinx!

Please, not on Thursday night. I can't do Thursdays, and the last two meetups have been on Thursdays. grrr.
posted by ambrosia at 5:17 PM on September 14, 2005

I don't know if I can get up the giddyup to go all the way to Berkeley.
posted by Kafkaesque at 6:09 PM on September 14, 2005

yeah yeah... we make it into the city plenty, ya whiner ;)

Tuesday's not ideal for me, but I could make it.
posted by expialidocious at 8:48 PM on September 14, 2005

Yeah, you know, SF has a lot of great pubs... ;^p

Wednesday and later just became bad for me -- the in-laws are coming.

Tuesday 9/20 7 PM, Jupiter in Berkeley?
posted by Zed_Lopez at 10:14 AM on September 15, 2005

Tuesday! 9/20! 7PM! Jupiter!

Among her many talents, caitlinb is great at just picking a date and making it stick. Above, you see my feeble attempt to imitate her natural leadership.
posted by scarabic at 2:41 PM on September 15, 2005

At least... so far I don't see anyone who definitely can't make it Tuesday. Seems like as good a suggestion as we can make considering various conflicts listed above.
posted by scarabic at 2:42 PM on September 15, 2005

See, the immediate backpedaling kinda undercuts the attempt to make the date stick....

I will most likely not make it, but I will make a valiant attempt.

Tuesday! 9/20! 7PM! Jupiter!

*scribbles it into calendar*
posted by ambrosia at 3:04 PM on September 15, 2005

Yer right, occhiblu. The date is set! too bad for you!!! ;)
posted by scarabic at 4:55 PM on September 15, 2005

Better! Stick to your guns! No mercy! Stay the course! Firm hand and steady mind! ... or something.

Have fun, in any event.

Aw, we need blue eyes, kids. We've been resting on our laurels with scarabic as our east bay sex icon for too long. All our eggs in one basket, what what. He smokes like a sailor and he's got glass ankles--point is, we need backup. occhiblu, I hope you can make it. I'll be there Tuesday.
posted by squirrel at 9:59 PM on September 15, 2005

This back-up would be in female form, you do realize...
posted by occhiblu at 7:26 AM on September 16, 2005

Baby's got backup.
posted by kirkaracha at 9:55 AM on September 16, 2005

Indeed.
posted by occhiblu at 11:33 AM on September 16, 2005

Are you saying scarabic is a man?
*chuckles quietly*
